We are currently seeking a Mechanical Designer for our Research and Development Team.

Position Overview:

Benshaw is a worldwide leader in industrial motor controls. The primary purpose of this position is the development of industrial motor controllers and protection devices used to control motors from 1 horsepower up to 22,500 horsepower. This development can take the form of power electronics designs, equipment enclosure designs, conformance testing (UL and IEC), as well as support of the manufacturing of these products. This position is in the Benshaw Research and Development department where Benshaw’s new products are created. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic team in the electrical components industry. This position will play a critical role in the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems and components for our cutting-edge electrical products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical design with a focus on electrical enclosures and power electronics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design and development of mechanical components and systems for electrical products, ensuring they meet industry standards and customer requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Conduct feasibility studies and prototyping of new mechanical designs, evaluating their effectiveness and recommending improvements
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical components for manufacturing purposes
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards throughout the design and development process
  • Investigate and resolve mechanical issues that arise during product testing, manufacturing, or customer use, implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Collaborate with suppliers to select materials and manufacturing processes that optimize the performance and cost-effectiveness of mechanical components
  • Participate in design reviews and present technical information to stakeholders, including management and customers, in a clear and concise manner
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in relevant technologies, proactively applying new knowledge to enhance product development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the electrical components industry
  • Expertise in mechanical design, analysis, and optimization, with a focus on electrical components and systems
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other relevant engineering tools
  • Demonstrated experience in designing for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and reliability
  • Solid understanding of material properties and mechanical behavior
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines related to electrical components and systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with working with supply chain and vendors
  • Experience operating in a manufacturing environment a plus
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and listening) and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of professionals
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally (up to 5%) to test products at third party test laboratories and visit customer locations
  • Good time management skills and ability to set priorities
