Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a metallurgist to support North and South American production through collaborative work with Engineering Design, Manufacturing, and Plant Purchasing divisions, and develop new metals technologies. This role is located in our Materials Development Department at our Superior Township, MI.
In This Role You Will
Validate and evaluate metal materials (sheet steel, cast iron, aluminum, etc.) for newly launching and current production vehicles. Work also includes R & D projects, patent submissions, as well as co-work projects with Hyundai Motor Group, suppliers, and the Hyundai R&D center in Namyang, South Korea.
Audit quality of current production metals (sheet steel, cast iron, aluminum, etc.), and participate in vehicle quality teardowns (e.g. weld evaluations).
Conduct laboratory analysis of metals to evaluate material and component performance. Make recommendations for performance improvement in relation to material specifications. Direct lab technicians on testing, analyze results, and report findings to Management.
Support Hyundai Motor Group and North / South American manufacturing locations with resolution of quality issues relating to metals by consulting with plant manufacturing locations and associated suppliers.
Benchmark industry activities and report results to appropriate departments.
Improve the quality of current Hyundai and Kia metal production parts.
Assist in planning and monitoring of department budgets.
Create and present technical reports as assigned.
Perform additional projects as assigned.
Travel up to 20% of time domestically and internationally.

Desired Experience And Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, Material Science, or Mechanical Engineering. Other degrees may be considered based on relevant experience
0-2 years of experience in metals analysis, processing (stamping, welding, etc.), or materials
Proficient skills in time management and organization, MS Office software, and oral and written communication
Valid Driver’s License and Satisfactory Driving Record
