Manager, Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

Apex Order Pickup Solutions is seeking a Manager, Strategic Sourcing & Procurement. This is a unique leadership opportunity as Apex redefines our sourcing and material planning process, supporting product design and development. Assuring the integration of the product development and procurement processes of both Apex and our supply chain partners. A successful Candidate will need to have experience in both the physical and digital realms, as Apex products are integrated systems that mix both hardware and software to create connected solutions. Our strategy requires dependence on global third-party manufacturing (and sometimes engineering) partners.

Apex Order Pickup Solutions is a new company, but finding smart and efficient ways to do things is in our DNA. Our roots go back to Apex Supply Chain Technologies, whose founder patented the first industrial vending technology more than 25 years ago. We introduced our first click & collect smart lockers in 2015, then rolled out similar technology for food order pickup soon after. As we gained more customers, we decided to create a separate business unit completely focused on their markets and needs. Our solutions provide self-serve order pickup with no waiting, no confusion, and no contact.

Our Manager of Strategic Sourcing, and Procurement is the leader of Apex’s Sourcing and Purchasing team, with direct responsibility for the strategy, processes, and execution of Apex’s global partner-based supply chain & pricing. This role will work closely with the leaders of Engineering, Quality, Accounting, Logistics, Operations, Customer Experience (CX) and Sales Operations to ensure team-wide success and exceptional service to our customers. Managing global supply chain partners, including contract manufacturers, to find an optimal balance of quality, cost and delivery is pivotal to this role, as are the processes and procedures necessary to appropriate manage and leverage our ERP system.

What You'll Do

  • Guide the organization in the development of a supply chain vision regarding the philosophy, process, and systems for sourcing and procurement that align with organizational strategy.
  • Strategically Source based on the supply chain vision and organizational strategy, develop, and maintain key supplier relationships. These relationships must create win-win relationships that will position us with the best suited global sources while increasing the efficiencies of the procurement process and reduce costs, while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct. Take a lead role in strategic and tactical negotiation of major supplier contracts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate issuance of Purchase Orders, manage suppliers to meet delivery commitments, and work cross functionally to ensure smooth receipt and invoicing processes. Reviews inventory usage to identify and implement efficient purchasing levels.
  • Develop goals, compiles data and metrics to measure supplier performance and drive continued improvements in areas of quality, cost and delivery. Utilize the metrics to support supplier selection and procurement decisions. Schedule and lead Vendor / Partner Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs).
  • Collaborate with cross function business leaders to develop, recommend, and implement opportunities for strategic pricing initiatives to maximize profitability., considering market conditions, competitive landscape, and customer value perception. Ensure that pricing strategies align with overall business goals and are effectively communicated and implemented across all internal stakeholders.
  • Manage and develop a high performing team of best-in-class supply chain professionals that continuously adds value to the organization. Maintain metrics for the team focused on tactical execution, strategic relationship management, and alignment with accounting, engineering, and operations.
  • Manage and negotiate contracts with domestic and global suppliers.
  • Stay abreast of market developments that influence supply or price conditions and report major developments to management, along with recommendations for changes in supply chain strategy, inventory levels, advance purchase commitments, etc.
  • Understand and support the cross-business processes and disciplines within which this department needs to operate and accommodate. Develop subject matter expertise in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) functionality and leverage the ERP for continual improvement within the business.
  • Reconcile, maintain, and enhance existing reporting tools currently supported by Power Business Intelligence (BI), MS Excel Business modeling. and other analytical tools.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as required by the business.


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in, Business, Supply Chain Engineering or another relevant field
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic sourcing/procurement / supply chain management in manufacturing and electronics-related industry
  • Significant experience in managing global supply chains with emphasis on APAC, experience managing supply chains in Mexico and other near shore environments desirable.
  • Experience in a start-up environment is preferred, with the ability and willingness to flex responsibilities as required.
  • Thorough understanding of ERP and MRP functionality in a manufacturing or logistics business
  • 5+ years of experience in leading and developing individuals, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • CSCP, CPIM and/or CPM certification
  • Well-established proficiency in the use and navigation of ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics (Customer Experience – CE & Business Central - BC).
  • Advanced level of skills and experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Power Business Intelligence (BI)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound strategic business judgments as it relates to supply chain, pricing and general financial management philosophies and initiatives.
  • Proven competency in distilling and synthesizing broad data sets and recommendations that will ultimately be presented to executive management.
  • Detailed knowledge of generally accepted purchasing practices, contract negotiation, and related laws and regulations.
  • This position will be primarily operating in an office environment, but with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor, customer sites or domestic and international suppliers. Up to 20% travel may be required in order to visit suppliers and partners.


Work location: This position is based in our Mason, Ohio office with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week.
