Job Purpose

This position will report to MDC’s Senior Director of Events, this position operates with a high degree of authority and independence and is responsible and accountable for developing, executing, and measuring Corporate Meeting and Events strategy for customer-facing events and event sponsorships. This role plays a key role in executing events and processes put in place by MDC and works in close collaboration with marketing and communications, and other business units across the company.

This position is also responsible for effectively utilizing corporate resources related to meetings/events, collaborating with other areas of the company to ensure meetings/events meet their goals and objectives, establishing budgets, analyzing expenses, delivering expense variance analyses, securing sponsorship revenue, and managing a team of third-party resources.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage own workload and frequently provide updates to team.
  • Execute all event-related strategies and goals in for MDC Event Services clients.
  • Ownership in site selection, budget preparation, expense management, and event implementation for 18-22 events for an average total of 1,500 people per year for MDC Event Services clients.
  • Lead expansive event team including multiple outside contractors and partners (national conference resources, digital marketing talent, registration platform, AV production team, meeting assistants, security, hotel resources, etc.) as necessary to carry out these meetings and events successfully.
  • Accountable for establishing annual budgets ($1 million+ annually).
  • Authorize and approve spend associated with meetings and events based on agreed upon budget.
  • Provide budget vs actual expense variance analysis for every event.
  • Execute on all sponsorship agreements during the events.
  • Provide a post-event value analysis to all sponsors.
  • Centralize all meeting activity in Cvent and MDC’s event site platform (RFP’s, budgets, agendas, registration, hotel logistics, communications, registration reports, badges, presentation decks, revenue collection, etc.).
  • Generate ideas for additional revenue sources.
  • Develop efficient and effective internal processes with project managers and marketing to elevate event preparation and delivery.
  • Bring fresh ideas and creativity to always elevate the level of events.
  • Represent MDC and MDC Event Services clients as professional first point of contact for all event attendees, hotels, and vendors.
  • Work with MDC Event Services clients’ marketing on branded materials related to meetings.
  • Coordinate all communications with speakers, sponsors, attendees, staff, and guests.
  • Communicate with board on logistics and accommodations for all board meetings.
  • Make hotel arrangements for staff and speakers.
  • Make travel arrangements for staff and speakers, if required.
  • Act as backup to primary social media manager during meetings and events.
  • Help with project process tasks, as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or related field; or equivalent trade-off in related professional work experience. Certified Meeting Professional preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in hotel sales, convention services, or meeting planning.
  • Collaborative work style necessary for a cross-functional team environment and for building and maintaining strong working relationships across the organization.
  • Experience in developing event budgets and post-event processes.
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated success in meeting setups, program development, AV equipment, and hotel services/operations.
  • Experience with the Cvent platform and ability to build events, meeting app, execute registration processes, reporting, and anything related to events.
  • Strong communication, organization, management, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Leadership abilities to manage outside contractors, vendors, and event teams.
  • Understand technology, social media, and website development.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Grace under pressure.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (1-2 times per month).

Compensation may vary based on the job level, your geographic work location, position incentive plan and exemption status.

Base Salary Range

$78,400.00 - $117,600.00
