Manager, Creative Show Operations (Production)

What You Get To Do

As the Manager, Creative Show Operations (Production) you will manage the entire production process of various core or consumer events & shows. This includes being responsible in the conception, install and strike process. In addition to managing the production process, you will be responsible for developing plans for achieving objectives, monitoring status, leading, and managing teams and Stage Managers. You will oversee their development and provide continuous coaching and feedback. Previous operations and personnel management experience is required for this position.

  • Oversee and manage multiple productions throughout the year (shows, special events, internal administrative projects), adhering to department production process guidelines
  • Create project scopes, timelines, facilitate bid meetings, provide job status updates and cost elements to internal and external partners
  • Coordinate and assist in production installation, maintenance, strike and storage requirements with internal and external vendors for show set elements, props, event décor, and signage
  • Assemble and direct design teams on projects, budgets and meetings.
  • Collaborate with park departments on new productions
  • Ensure team members and contractors are practicing safe work habits to include the use of personal protective equipment
  • Compile project books as reference source for Entertainment department
  • Continually review and help develop all show production elements to ensure the highest level of show quality
  • Responsible for the development of Stage Managers and team members by providing training, feedback and coaching
  • Communicate project strategy, timelines, goals and deadlines to required personnel in a time-sensitive manner
  • Work with designers, both internal and external, to build concepts and proposals
  • Bid and complete projects within cost and time allocations
  • Work with internal producers when new shows are developed by outside creative team; act as liaison between internal and external partners throughout the production process.
  • Work with Management staff on strategic and long-range planning
  • Convey and facilitate production standards to other departmental park employees as well as contract technicians
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

What It Takes To Succeed

  • At least 5 years of experience in a project management environment
  • Experience/knowledge in show production
  • Working knowledge of the disciplines involved in Entertainment-based events and productions to include: production, design, technical and administrative elements
  • Ability to create concepts, manage high level budgets and timelines for productions
  • Proven knowledge of installation/strike and maintenance of props, set pieces and décor
  • Demonstrated ability for strong decision-making and negotiation skills
  • Ability to coordinate and manage creative talent
  • Strong organization and time-management skills and be able to reinforce those skills among team members/direct reports
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrated success in leading people in a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, to include public speaking and ability to readily adjust for audience
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive projects and issues
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • A valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain a company driver’s license is required
  • Able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time in extreme weather conditions
  • Available to work varying shifts or hours based on park hours; i.e. be able to work opening and closing shifts

What Else Is Important

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theater, Management or other related and relevant field preferred
  • Production and/or Special Event experience is preferred
