Linux System Administrator
Job Summary:
A System Administrator III will support user desktops, administrator and maintenance tasks with company Linux (Ubuntu) servers, and specialized appliances, both on premises and in cloud (AWS).
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of Linux servers, virtualization, and network connectivity on premises and in the cloud.
- Responsible for patching, disk management, package management, security hardening and vulnerability remediation for Linux (Ubuntu) servers on premises and in cloud.
- Responsible for creating and modifying users and groups with sudo permissions.
- Install and upgrade software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
- Deploy user desktop/laptop systems consistent with established configurations.
- Install and upgrade software on user systems including Operating System patches.
- Work with the customer (end users) to understand their computing needs and make sure their system can accommodate their use case.
- Monitor systems for appropriate use in accordance with established IT policies.
- Backup and restore user data and profiles.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software problems on end user systems.
- Provide excellent customer service when users are having difficulty with their systems.
- Answer incoming calls from clients and perform evaluation of their problem.
- Document troubleshooting and remediation steps in JIRA ticketing system.
- Follow up on outstanding requests and ensure timely resolution.
- Create accounts and configure hardware as part of on-boarding process.
- Setup and configure Windows desktop operating systems from scratch and with imaging tools.
- Manage and monitor internal assets to ensure accurate inventory records.
- Other duties may be added and/or assigned as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- 7+ years of Linux system administration and network administration experience.
- Strong understanding of certificate management, CI/CD pipelines for Linux systems.
- Strong understanding of DNS, NIS, NFS, Red Hat IDM, FreeIPA, ftp, remote access, and security management.
- Strong logical skills and computer architectures and user interface concepts.
- Familiarity with Azure Active Directory to manage user accounts.
- Understanding of basic windows security features.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP and networking protocols.
- Basic understanding of mobile platforms (iOS and Android).
- Basic knowledge of Windows Powershell command basics.
- Capable of creating quality documentation for procedures and record keeping.
- Highly skilled in troubleshooting techniques.
- Good organizational and time management skills – Keep time and work on tasks efficiently.
Additional Experience:
- Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent.
- Experience with AWS networking protocols.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Macs and Linux operating systems.
- Experience loading and installing client applications from scratch and using remote deployment tools.
- Experience installing and configuring Mac and Windows Desktop Operating Systems.
- Experience with Landscape preferred.
