Junior Small Boat Mechanic / Marine Engineering Technician

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) supports a dynamic U.S. Navy Directorate specializing in design, research, development, testing, and evaluation of experimental watercraft for its DoD clients. We provide full spectrum Operations and Maintenance support of various combatant craft, patrol boats, Special Operations Forces platforms, and coastal craft ensuring performance and fleet readiness.


CPC is seeking a qualified individual for full time vessel support services to Waterfront Operations CCD, in Norfolk, VA. The selected candidate will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, service, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of marine inboard and outboard engines. All work will be performed safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices. The technician will troubleshoot equipment onboard naval small boats and test craft, check functionality of newly installed equipment, and evaluate systems’ performance under actual operating conditions.


Duties and work conditions include but are not limited to:


  • Responsible for the installation, service, repair, and testing of marine inboard and outboard engines.
  • Troubleshoot equipment onboard naval small boats and test craft.
  • Check functionality of newly installed equipment.
  • Evaluate system performance while underway during actual operating conditions.
  • All work will be performed safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices
  • May be required to work first shift (0700-1530) or second shift (0830-1700).
  • Work will be performed inside and outside enclosed buildings. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, light lifting, and reaching. Will be periodically required to be underway onboard navy small craft serving as chief engineer.


Requirements


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, OEM, or related trade school training preferred
  • Experience with maritime engine repair experience (Level/pay will depend on years of direct experience)
  • Demonstrated maintenance experience with Honda, Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude, or other common industry outboard/outdrive motors; OEM Certifications highly desirable
  • Familiarity with MTU, Cummins, Caterpillar, or Steyr Diesel Engines a plus
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to read, write and follow technical directives correctly
  • U.S. Citizenship required and obtain a DoD Interim Secret Clearance before hire and maintain clearance throughout employment
  • All candidates will be required to pass a consumer report and/or consumer investigation to include SSN, Driver Record and Criminal Background Investigation
  • Possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to be insured through Company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of your work employment.
  • Physically able and conditioned to endure the rigors of serving onboard small watercraft operated at high speeds in rough water.
  • Prior service Navy Engineman, Special Boat Team mechanics, and Coast Guard SAR Station Machinery Technicians (MK) encouraged to apply
