The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Intern – Engineering.
This position is Part-Time Temporary, Non-Exempt position with an hourly rate of $15.9135. This position is Non-Bargaining. The individual in this position will be stationed at the Utilities Department located at 116 College St, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.
Summary
The Internship Program is designed to provide the following to students:
Information & Operation Technology work environment exposure
Meaningful work assignments and professional experience with many technical systems
Chance to collaborate with experienced engineers and technology managers
The opportunity to develop and modify network schematics
By drawing out the existing network diagram and documenting the changes needed the intern will learn LAN/WAN, VLAN’s, NAT, and IP subnetting
By terminating network cable and testing the terminations the intern will understand what it takes to pass todays testing standards
An opportunity to gain a working knowledge of SCADA systems
By taking part in high level meetings the intern will learn network security and best practices in SCADA security.

Preferred
The preferred candidate will have taken technical computer courses and have direct technical experience with at least some of the following focus areas:
Virtualization - VMware ESXI
Operating Systems and software programs – Microsoft Windows 10, Server 2016/2019 and MS Office
Networking - A working knowledge of TCP/IP network configuration, NAT, DHCP, VLAN, routing and ACL’s.
The position involves managing and maintaining operational technologies including SCADA systems, VMware, Windows server, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless radio systems. Document existing architectures, and update documentation as the modifications are made. Manage backups, replication and a disaster recovery plan. Implementing and maintaining best practices including compliance with government regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
This person must be able to work collaboratively with other members of the City of Lake Worth Beach staff, technology providers and contractors.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team depending on the assignment or situation.
Strong analytical and critical thinking, with the ability to identify opportunities that can improve efficiency.
A clear understanding of client/server technology and network architecture.
Good communication skills, including writing, speaking and active listening.
Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
