TITLE: Instructor of Adult English Language Learners (ESL Teacher)
LOCATION: Urbana Adult Education Center
SUPERVISOR: ESL Coordinator
SUPERVISES: Classroom Volunteers
HOURS: Part-time of 5-10 hours per week
JOB SUMMARY: The ESL teacher will demonstrate the knowledge, creativity, organizational skills, and cultural understanding necessary to successfully implement four skills, content-based ESL curriculum, assisting our immigrant adult learners in improving the English language skills necessary for increased success in personal, work, or higher education endeavors. Classes meet twice per week, 2.5 hours each meeting for a total of 5 hours. Choice of day or evening classes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Plan lessons for ESL instruction
Conduct direction instruction of 10-25 students per class
Complete follow-up support for assigned students
Keep accurate attendance records
Collaborate with colleagues
Participate in monthly staff meetings
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Qualified Candidates Must Possess One Of The Following
ESL Endorsement on K-12 state teaching license
ESL Certificate from a recognized institution of higher education
Experience
Previous experience working with adult immigrants preferred
Prior experience teaching advanced pronunciation or ESL basic literacy levels is strongly preferred
EVALUATION: To be completed by the ESL Coordinator using the district’s evaluation instrument.
