Hot Fuel Examination Facility (HFEF) Nuclear Research Facility Technician Idaho Laboratory is hiring a Hot Fuel Examination Facility (HFEF) Nuclear Research Facility Technician to work in our HFEF Research Operations department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off. Nuclear Research Facility Technicians in the Hot Fuel Examination Facility (HFEF) at the Idaho Laboratory perform a variety of work activities including tracking, packaging, transferring, receiving, storing/handling fissionable materials, handling/treating radioactive and hazardous material. Responsibilities Include: Important functions of the position are:

  • Operate and perform some maintenance on facility equipment and systems. Facility equipment and systems may include overhead handling systems, remote handling equipment, shielded casks, facility utilities, operational support systems, gloveboxes, and testing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of facility operation, equipment performance, production, treatment and experimental data in logbooks, log-sheets, or other data packages by facility programs and administrative procedures.
  • As requested, review and provide operational input to proposed procedures, procedural revisions, and proposed modifications to facility equipment/systems.
  • Apply standard procedures for assigned tasks and known processes, such as experiments requiring minor modification and overseeing test equipment.
  • Clearly understand and recognize the use of Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools in self and others with the knowledge of how and when to apply tools to a specific work task.

Qualifications: Minimum Requirements:

  • High school (HS) diploma and two years of experience demonstrating a strong, mechanical aptitude, hand-eye coordination, electrical, or scientific application, or relevant associate degree.
  • Experience gained in multiple industrial, laboratory or commercial settings.
  • If selected for interview will be required to show successful completion of college level or high school advanced placement math and science courses with a min of a "C" grade as part of the interview process.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information

  • Salary Grade: TS0100 - 170 - ($57,108 - $91,440)
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
