Heavy Duty Truck Parts Salesperson

Primary, this position is responsible for retail and wholesale sales of medium and heavy-duty truck aftermarket and OEM parts and accessories. Sales are conducted in person or over the phone to determine customer needs and inform the customer of the available options and pricing. Product and semi truck knowledge is paramount to success in this position. The secondary responsibility of this position is to maintain the company’s established customer base and develop new customers.

  • Explain products or services to existing and prospective customers
  • Confer with customers to assess parts needs and to determine parts or truck system requirements
  • Collaborate with manufacturers technical support to understand customer requirements
  • Locate and obtain ordered part for customer from warehouse or vendor.
  • Determine sales price for customers for each sale in accordance with company procedure
  • Handle part returns for customers in accordance with company procedure
  • Special order parts on an emergency basis when necessary and appropriate
  • Process approved credits for customer when merchandise is returned
  • Secure and renew orders and arrange for delivery
  • Recommend replacement, upgrades, or superseded parts to customers explaining how changes will lower costs or increase performance
  • Maintain confidentiality of pricing lists and structures as required by company procedure
  • Answer customers’ questions about products, prices, and availability, warranty, and product features
  • Provide customers with product literature
  • Utilize non-selling, non-servicing time by studying catalogs, bulletins, changes, additions, deletions, stocking, and other inventory and duties
  • Ensure that the counter parts area is clean and in order. Ensure that display areas encourage sales
  • Operate computer to view cataloging with system diagrams

Requirements

  • Excellent decision making abilities and problem solving skills
  • Positive attitude and a great work ethic are a must
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills (both verbal and written)

The perfect candidate for the position is sales oriented, a fast learner, very mechanically inclined and has great problem-solving abilities. This person is computer savvy, a proficient multi-tasker, has a good memory, and loves to continuously learn. This is a career position and takes time to master.
