Guest Services Attendant - Recreation

Job Summary

Interact with all ages and monitor all Recreation Center activities, including all fitness areas, classrooms, and open spaces. Monitor the Hurst Kidz drop-off area, intake of participants, communication with guardians, and supervision of participants. Sets up gymnasium and classrooms as needed. Provides special event support as required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for positive guest interactions with all members, guests, and staff at the Hurst Recreation, Tennis, or Senior Activities Center.
  • Effectively communicates information on programs, activities, and events;
  • Effectively communicates facility guidelines and processes to guests. Assists with resolving complaints.
  • Receives membership fees, daily use fees, room use, and class registration.
  • Admits members and guests into the assigned building per the “Membership Policy”; checks proof of membership of each person seeking to use the facility; accepts fees and generates receipt; obtains the signature of each person using the facility and records fee paid, if any.
  • Performs opening and closing procedures as defined by the building supervisor. Maintains cleanliness of general recreation areas/locker rooms/bathrooms and an hourly checklist to ensure facility cleanliness.
  • Accurately records incidents, accidents, deposits, facility inspections, etc, and sends to supervisor.
  • Secures all cash receipts and the building at closing time.
  • Adheres to Hurst’s Code of Ideals and The Hurst Way. Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required for this position, including all meetings and trainings.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others during daily work.

Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of RecTrac or ability to learn.
  • Perform multiple tasks in an active environment, use good judgment, and take the initiative.
  • Ability to assist guests promptly and efficiently.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products and standard office equipment.
  • Punctual, responsible, dependable, and professional; working effectively in a public environment.
  • Ability to hear and direct guests and staff in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in public/employee relations and problem-solving.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stop while assisting with programs or events.
  • Work may be subject to time pressures, emergencies, and frequent changes to tasks, working closely with others as part of a team, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, and dealing with difficult persons.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and can excel at applying the City of Hurst’s Code of Ideals in all interpersonal relations with city staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods to operate standard office equipment, including computer keyboard, telephone, calculator, copier, fax machine, and printer.

Minimum Education, Certification, And Experience Requirements

  • Previous customer service experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a community recreation setting is preferred.
  • CPR and AED certified or able to obtain within 30 days.
  • Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to perform light to medium work that involves walking or standing, setting up classrooms or gymnasiums, cleaning the kitchens, using the computer keyboard and mouse, reaching with hands and arms, talk and hear, stand, walk, and stoop, or crouch. This position requires occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This job requires the ability to work in an office environment where the noise level is usually moderate.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to disagreeable environmental factors, including all temperatures when working outside.
