The Director of Brand Merchandise's primary role is to strategically guide assigned categories to achieve financial targets and enhance customer satisfaction. This position will oversee a team of category managers to fulfill the merchandising department’s strategic goals.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Develop and implement strategic plans for General Merchandise, Trucker Merchandise, Mobile Technologies, and Electronics categories.
• Supervise a team of category managers and support staff.
• Direct departmental strategy, with a focus on private brand initiatives and global sourcing.
• Establish and maintain systems and workflows to support efficient merchandising operations.
• Create project plans, set milestones, and track progress to ensure strategic alignment.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to achieve merchandising objectives and promote teamwork.
• Mentor and support the team, fostering a culture of productivity, accountability, and innovation.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and optimize resources.
• Manage the 4 P’s of Marketing (product, place, price, promotion) for assigned categories.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives to boost financial performance and enhance customer experience.
• Develop and implement KPIs to measure the strategic success of assigned categories.
• Utilize analytical tools to make data-driven decisions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in retail category management.
• Over 5 years of experience managing a team or department.
• Proven experience in managing vendor relations and strategic planning.
• Experience with accounts payable, technical developments, or implementation is a plus.
• Product development experience is advantageous.
SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Skills:
• Technical skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Tableau, and inventory management systems.
• Soft skills: Strong written and verbal communication, ability to navigate ambiguity and stress, attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills, and effective follow-up.
• Physical Requirements:
• Flexible scheduling and the ability to travel frequently.
• Prolonged sitting, occasional bending, and stooping.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
• Normal range of hearing and vision required.
