Events Manager

Since its opening in 2008, the Kansas City Power & Light District has helped revitalize downtown Kansas City’s core and is truly the most exciting place to live, work and play.  As a thriving 24/7 neighborhood and entertainment destination located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, the Power & Light District is powered by more than 1,000 team members in a variety of industries including hospitality, food and beverage, multi-family housing, events/marketing, entertainment, commercial real estate and more.  The District is uniquely positioned at the vibrant intersection of Kansas City’s business and arts districts, and is the home of the international headquarters of H&R Block and Spark, KC’s newest and most innovative coworking community.

We are in search of an experienced and professional individual to join our Marketing & Events team as the Events Manager to manage and develop a variety of events and festivals for The Kansas City Power & Light District and Kansas City Live! Block. We are in search of an experienced and professional individual, with a proven record of planning and executing large-scale events and promotions, to join the Kansas City Power & Light District Marketing & Events team as the Events Manager.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Create and execute compelling, layered events for the Kansas City Power & Light District and Kansas City Live! Block.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including but not limited to: pre-planning, registration and attendee tracking, event layout/maps, event brochures, timelines, vendor negotiation, vendor management and post-event evaluations and recaps.
  • Communicate and coordinate with operations and team members on event details and needs - operations, security, staffing, etc. This includes using event software to consistently communicate to all parties involved. 
  • Manage event staff and volunteers, including but not limited hiring, training and on-site management.
  • Assist with corporate partnerships and media partnerships.
  • Communicate and coordinate with all tenants to ensure they are aware of events and details (both participating and non-participating tenants).
  • Be on-site at all events and concerts in the Power & Light District unless otherwise notified or approved by management.
  • Collaborate with the Entertainment & Production Director to book entertainment and create event timeline/run-of-show.
  • Create and update venue site plan for each event. Distribute to all relevant parties.
  • Help calculate budget and financials pre-and-post for events including reviewing and processing invoices for approval/payment, updating event budget sheets at the conclusion of each event and obtaining costs from other team members to determine final event budget(s).
  • Coordinate with Marketing Team to strategize paid advertising and using existing marketing resources to promote event(s).
  • Manage event signage and décor inventory. Coordinate with operations team to maintain the quality of investments and inventory staging/storage.

Other: 

  • Serve as a representative at community events, expos and booths. Investigate opportunities for representation and community involvement for the Power & Light District
  • Assist management with intern program and utilize interns to help with events.
  • Assist management as needed with projects pertaining to marketing, media, events and sponsorship.
  • Attend all district marketing and team operational meetings.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination and execution of year-long marketing strategies and initiatives
  • Seek out new and innovative marketing and event opportunities for the Power & Light District and its properties/venues

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in event management, hospitality, business administration, marketing or related field or equivalent.
    Proven project manager with a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in entertainment or event management.
    Highly organized with keen attention to detail and outstanding project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and creative skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, leverage research, understanding marketer needs and creatively translating these needs into compelling concepts and programs.
  • Self-motivated and solution-driven who thrives in a high-energy setting and is able to move and adapt quickly.
  • Team player, able to work alongside and interact professionally with co-workers, clients, customers, tenants and vendors.
  • Must speak fluent English. Other languages preferred.

This job requires ability to perform the following:

  • This job requires non-traditional hours on evenings and weekends.
  • Frequently standing up or moving within and outside of the facility
  • Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Handling objects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), social media platforms and SEO; Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator a plus.
