Summary Statement
The Division of Air Quality monitors and regulates all emissions to the air. It issues permits to construct and permits to operate air contaminant sources. It maintains emission inventories from business and industry. It develops the State’s implementation plan as required by the Clean Air Act.

Two positions will be filled under this posting. Both positions will be responsible for promoting air quality and environmental considerations in all transportation planning, decision making and initiatives to bridge the technical gap between the transportation sector, land development and community planning. These positions develop environmental policies, air quality regulations, planning activities and designs implementation strategies that lead to sustainable emission reductions. One position will be focused on clean transportation and offshore wind energy production. One position will be focused on the Diesel Emission Reduction Act grant program.

Upon satisfactory completion of department promotional standards and job requirements, employees may be eligible to be promoted to the next level.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

- Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
- Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
- Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
- Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
- Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
- Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
- Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
- Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
- Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Possession of a Bachelors degree (Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering) or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination (Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering) administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
