Operational Management:
The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects in a low volume/high mix manufacturing environment, ensuring efficient production processes, high-quality output, and alignment with company goals. This role involves strategic planning, process optimization, resource management, and team leadership to drive operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Duties/Responsibilities
Operational Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of low volume/high mix manufacturing environment, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient use of resources.
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to optimize productivity and quality.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute operational strategies aligned with business goals.
- Identify opportunities for growth and improvement, and implement initiatives to enhance operational performance.
- Analyze current production processes and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement methodologies to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and make data-driven decisions.
- Manage the allocation and utilization of resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment.
- Develop and manage budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure cost-effective operations.
- Oversee maintenance and procurement of equipment and materials to ensure operational continuity.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team, including supervisors, machinists, and support staff.
- Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Ensure that all products meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Implement and maintain quality control systems, including inspections, testing, and documentation.
- Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to understand customer needs and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
- Address customer concerns and complaints, and work to improve customer satisfaction and retention.
- Oversee major projects from planning through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless project execution and alignment with overall business objectives.
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety within the low volume/high mix manufacturing environment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and conduct regular safety audits and training.
- Prepare regular reports on operational performance, including production metrics, financial performance, and project status.
- Analyze data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and process improvement methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions and solve complex operational issues.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems and other operational software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in operations management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 15 + years’ experience in operations management within a low volume/high mix manufacturing environment.
