Director of Membership Engagement

No longer accepting applications

The Marine Retailers Association of the Americas, a nonprofit trade association representing boat dealers and the boating industry across North America, is on a significant growth trajectory, and we need your help. With growing opportunities to fulfill our mission and help our industry grow and improve, we are seeking a proven leader to run our Membership & Engagement Business Unit and become a catalyst for our growth.

With significant membership growth over the past few years and incredible potential for more, we are seeking a Director of Engagement to help continue pushing our membership programs and deliverables forward. We are looking for the right individual who can bring a strategic mindset, the skills to manage all people and financials; the ability to communicate effectively and develop strong relationships with prospects, members, teammates, and other stakeholders; and who can effectively grow MRAA’s membership toward the goals we have set for ourselves. We need someone with a proven background in membership and someone who can guide and manage a small membership team.

At the MRAA, we enjoy a fun, relaxed, creative culture that prioritizes the contributions of all team members ahead of the importance of any of our formally defined roles or responsibilities. We partake in regular staff collaborative events and enjoy Friday afternoons off throughout the summer. We work hard, take great pride in our work and ownership in all outcomes, yet we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We give each other the freedom to use our individual strengths to execute our job descriptions, and we seek to provide growth-focused career development.

Role Overview: The MRAA Director of Engagement maintains accountability for the management for MRAA’s membership and engagement programs, to include retail and partner memberships, benefits programs, data efforts and more. This includes accountability for program participation, profitability, revenue generation and expense and resource allocation. This individual will be the final decision maker for all things that impact MRAA’s membership programs’ bottom line, including product development, resource management, stakeholder management and business development.

Key Responsibility: Strategic Planning

  • Ensure the development, implementation and communication of three-year and one-year strategic plans and accompanying goals for all MRAA Membership and Engagement programs.
  • Innovate in creating and delivering new programs, products and services, based on MRAA’s Strategic Plan, to enhance the growth and scalability of MRAA Membership and Engagement programs.
  • Identify and respond to MRAA’s prospects and customers’ pain points and opportunities with effective strategies, tactics and solutions.

Key Responsibility: Resource Management

  • Effectively utilize the MRAA Membership and Engagement Business Unit’s financial, personnel and other resources to meet the expectations of stated goals and strategic plans.
  • Manage MRAA Membership and Engagement programs to the profitability expectations set in the annual budget and ongoing forecast documents and create, follow and manage MRAA membership processes.
  • Follow MRAA’s People Processes to include hiring, onboarding, training, managing, coaching, regular meetings, and more.
  • I have ensured membership products and services are created and delivered on time and on budget.

Key Responsibility: Stakeholder Management

  • Manage MRAA Membership and Engagement effectively.
  • Work closely with colleagues and other business units to drive success for both MRAA in general, as well as our membership and engagement efforts.
  • Understand customer and prospect needs, pain points and opportunities and use them to steer the direction of MRAA membership and engagement efforts.

Key Responsibility: Business Development

  • Innovate and create business growth strategies.
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to deliver campaigns and messaging that effectively and accurately share the MRAA story and create and capture leads that help MRAA’s membership grow.
  • Measure the results of our online education efforts — participation, customer satisfaction, profitability and more — and have used data and other findings to help guide the future direction of our membership and engagement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ leadership experience in membership and engagement management, preferably for a trade association;
  • Successful background in managing a team as well as managing other internal relationships, including outstanding communication skills;
  • Strong, proven ability to generate, nurture and maintain customer relationships;
  • Proven experience with building membership programs and meaningful benefits;
  • Strong skills in membership process documentation and continuous improvement of membership onboarding, membership journeys and membership engagement;
