I. Job Summary

The Director of Finance is a hands-on and participative manager to lead and develop an internal accounting team to support financial reporting, business planning and budgeting, forecasting and formal financial reviews. The Director of Finance is responsible for managing financial and accounting policies and providing leadership and coaching to the Finance Team. The Director of Finance also has the responsibility to hire and supervise the IT team, with the support of HFE corporate IT.

II. Summary Of Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Formulates and manages, procedures and objectives to ensure the most efficient and professional finance program for the property. Coordinates the property financial activities with Herschend Family Entertainment Corporate Office, Herschend Vice President of Finance, and Chief Financial Officer
  • Provide positive financial leadership for the finance team and assigned divisions in a professional and competent manner using established policies, procedures, expectations, and training for the team to perform at the highest level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manages the accounting function, including all activities related to accounts payable/receivable, cash control, revenue recognition, inventory, general ledger, period and annual financial reports, internal controls and the annual audit.
  • Establishes general accounting and reporting systems in compliance with corporate systems and generally accepted accounting principles. Reviews and approves the recording of assets, expenses and operational profits with related analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions. Review all Callaway contracts to ensure revenue and expenses are properly recorded and in compliance with policies/procedures including signing authority and limits
  • Conducts profit and loss, budget, forecast and financial reviews. Analyzes and makes recommendations on proposed capital projects and operational changes.
  • Provides consultative and participative decision-making advice to Property Chief and executive leaders while ensuring that needed financial information is given on time to facilitate decision-making. Makes recommendations for expense control and acts by developing contingency plans and general financial oversight.
  • Leads the preparation of periodic budget reports, conducts financial statement reviews at each period's end, analyzes results, and reports variations to identify potential budgetary problems.
  • Manages the property's annual and long-term budgetary program. Prepares financial forecasts and financial review packages. With the corporate office, develops yearly and multi-year financial targets. Implements and uses Information Technology systems to support automation growth.
  • Conducts financial studies and proformas to aid long-range and short-term financial planning in revenue production, expense management, per capita spending, and capital investments in compliance with corporate forecasts and financial plans.
  • Manage accounting team to ensure timely and accurate recording of all transactions and related account reconciliations
  • Ensure adherence with policies, cost controls, and audit activities of company assets.
  • Real Estate management agreements and public relations with Cottage and Villa Owners
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for Callaway Gardens' Executives and Board of Directors.
  • Serves as Treasurer of the Ida B. Cason Foundation. Oversees budgets and schedules for capital projects, participates in quarterly board meetings, reviews board financial statements, leads and conducts audits, and approves all AP transactions
  • Income Tax compliance, business licensing to include alcohol and all others in accordance with Federal, State and Local Regulatory guidelines, may serve as legal liaison for trademarks, litigations matter.
  • . Provide cash flow requirements to the Herschend Treasury Team
  • Authorize test checks and internal audits as necessary to determine the adequacy of pre-established controls and adherence to established operating policy and procedures.
  • Advise on appropriate technology that meets the organization's information requirements and financial resources.
  • Work as liaison between local and corporate IT teams with respect to major project funding and project management.
  • Practices servant leadership with consultative and participative decision-making skills.

Undertakes special assignments or projects when assigned by the Property Chief.

III. Education And Experience Required

  • Business or Accounting degree required; master's in business administration preferred.
  • CPA preferred and will be given priority consideration.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive accounting experience, including experience in a multi-office environment.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mid- management role, supervising managers and supervisors; evaluating five or more direct reports required.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organization change and development within a growing organization.
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise.

  • Work with local Property Chief to plan and conduct annual budgeting and planning process; review all budgets, monitor progress and keep Property Chief informed of progress.
  • Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, depreciated/amortized and disposed of as appropriate.
  • Provide timely analysis and financial support to Property Team.
  • Advise on appropriate technology that meets the organization's information requirements and financial resources.
  • Able to make a friendly impression when speaking to or corresponding with guests, vendors, and other employees.
