The Position
The mission of every Robertson employee is to execute their responsibilities with the #1 goal of saving and protecting the lives of service members across the globe. Design Engineer - Aviation design, draft and develop aircraft fuel system components; and write clear and concise test plans, reports, memos, and trip reports. Design Engineers may assume Project Lead roles as described below.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design Engineers - Aviation I, II, III, IV and V:
Designs aviation fuel system components and assemblies
Drafts aviation fuel system components and assemblies
Executes design changes and process updates as required
Develops test plans and test reports based on senior engineer and management direction
Interprets drawings, specifications, and other data to support design and development of components and assemblies
Performs component weight analysis
Performs proof of concept experiments to demonstrate ideas
Marginal duties may include the following:
Proactively seeks guidance and work opportunities to increase skill set and to determine the potential impact of designs and improve understanding of standard operating procedures
Assists Engineering with projects as necessary
Adherence to Export Control and Technology Control Plan (TCP) as applicable to job function
Adherence to Compliance Plan and Employee Policy Manual

Design Engineers - Aviation II, III, IV and V (in addition to the above):
Assists with training and on-the-job learning initiatives for less experienced Design Engineers
Works with senior engineers and management on component and assembly integration into customer equipment
Effectively and directly communicates with vendors and customers
Design Engineers – Aviation IV and V (in addition to the above):
Works with teammates, production staff, and technical staff to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of customer needs into finished products
Coordinates the development of new processes and methodologies
Supports proposal development activities by providing engineering support to Contracts and Sales departments
Performs Risk Management on high profile, high cost, or long lead components
Executes preliminary and critical design reviews with teammates to adequately express project requirements
Regularly informs and educates stakeholders on new systems, designs, and methodology to ensure proper understanding and execution of designs
Design Engineers- Aviation IV and V may be assigned as Project Leads and will assume product development and project management responsibilities for a given set of projects/products; associated duties include but are not limited to:
Leading the design and development of a product as well as the execution throughout the life cycle of the product (business development phase to product disposal phase) to include capture, development, test, production, and sustainment
Developing and manage to schedules for each project
Designing products that meet customer requirements
Supporting proposal development activities by developing technical volume sections
Developing specifications based on customer requirements
Ensuring technical and schedule requirements are met
Managing any required test program for the product
Responding to internal and external customer questions and requests in a timely fashion
Conducting project status meetings and reporting status updates on existing project(s)
Leading efforts to reduce product costs
Supporting the production and sustainment of the product
Qualifications

Education And Experience
Design Engineer- Aviation I: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous internship experience in an engineering field is preferred.
Design Engineer- Aviation II: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a design engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.
Design Engineer- Aviation III: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a design engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a design engineer role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.
Design Engineer- Aviation IV: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of thirteen (13) years of experience in a design engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a design engineer role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.
Design Engineer- Aviation V: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in a design engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a design engineer role; or a PhD in Engineering and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a design engineer role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.
Professional Qualifications
Required:
Solid understanding of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and software
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, groups of managers, and/or end users
Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, applies lessons learned to preclude recurrences, and gathers and analyzes information skillfully; proactively looks for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint; and Access)
Mathematical understanding consistent with the educational requirements
Ability to read, write and communicate clearly and effectively in English
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to use various tools to identify and solve problems

Familiar with design of mechanical assemblies
Ability to coordinate and perform tasks with minimal direction

Program management and schedule tracking (i.e. using Microsoft Project)
Design Engineer- Aviation V (in addition to the above):
Familiar with drafting program proposals
Preferred:
Familiarity specifically with SolidWorks Computer-Aided Design
Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5

Physical Demands
Design Engineers- Aviation II, III, IV and V: Up to 25% domestic and/or international travel is required. While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit and stand. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb, squat, bend, or kneel. The incumbent must occasionally lift or carry a maximum of 50 pounds; as well as push or pull a maximum of 100 pounds. The incumbent will regularly use hand tools including but not limited to wrenches, sockets, drills, screwdrivers, rulers, and calipers. The incumbent will occasionally use powered equipment including but not limited to company computers, vehicles, golf carts, fork lifts and hoists. Ability to drive a company vehicle per Employee Policy Manual E.7.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly exposed to mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to dirty working conditions, heat or cold ranging between 65 and 80 degree ambient conditions, vapors or fumes, and dust shavings. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate (< 85 dB) but may occasionally exceed 85dB and require hearing protection. The incumbent is required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including Nitrile or Chloroprene gloves, a negative pressure respirator, dust mask, safety glasses, goggles, and ear plugs.
