Department Overview
Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness and recreation programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: The Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), Pavilion, Live Well, Outdoor Adventures, Recreation Sports, Sports Clubs, Equestrian Center, Craft Center, Aquatics Program, Youth Programs and the UC Davis Marching Band.
Position Overview
Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Member Services, coordinate day-to-day member services operations of the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), including but not limited to customer service, access control, sales, marketing and monitoring budgets. Manage the membership programs for the ARC/Campus Recreation on the Davis campus, and the UC Davis Health Fitness Center in Sacramento. Work cooperatively with the Member Services Coordinator at the ARC to ensure a safe and positive
experience for student staff and members in the facility; act as back up for the Member Services Coordinator as necessary. Supervise a large student staff, ensuring adequate training to provide excellent customer service and appropriate access control. Serve as primary for equipment maintenance, procurement, and ARC vendor contact. Assist with special events, and serve on department or campus committees in support of the Department of Campus Recreation, the Division of Student Affairs, and the UC Davis campus community.
Position Functions
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION
Oversee the day-to-day responsibilities for the membership programs of the ARC and the UC Davis Health facility, including locker sales, membership sales, access control system, reservations, responses to member comment cards, locker cleanout, etc. Ensure that membership information, holiday hours, etc. are kept updated on department webpage and signage is displayed as needed. Serve as primary for equipment maintenance, procurement, and ARC vendor contact.
Provide excellent customer service.; Manage student staff in regards to equipment rental, fitness center, Building Supervisors and assist with supervising other unit area staff.
Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and evaluate a large student staff. Schedule staff to ensure appropriate staffing levels based on facility usage. Provide comprehensive training for student staff regarding memberships, access control, lockers, problem resolution, etc. to ensure high quality customer service. Track and ensure completion of department and campus required trainings including online LMS, Mandated Reporter, FERPA, PCI Compliance, First Aid, AED, CPR, etc. Approve student timesheets, ensuring accuracy. Assist with supervising other Campus Recreation units’ student staff as needed.
Assist with developing and implementing guidelines for recruitment, orientation, and retention of members, as well as requirements for membership eligibility. Maintain membership database. Use monthly, quarterly and annual reports to monitor membership activities, including membership fluctuation and member retention. Troubleshoot member accounts as needed. Coordinate, plan and implement membership events and activities, such as Member Appreciation. Collect and analyze facility use data and other relevant information for assessment and budgeting. Participate in data-based decision-making, using knowledge of campus and department policies and procedures to create departmental best practices to meet operational needs.
Serve as the liaison to divisional Business Services staff, UC Davis Health staff and others as needed to facilitate membership business. Work cooperatively with the IT and campus staff to coordinate data imports of necessary student and staff information related to memberships.
Work closely with Membership Coordinator regarding membership issues. Act as back up for the Membership Coordinator as necessary. Assist with annual assessment of both our student staff and campus recreation members. Implement a risk management plan and emergency action procedures. Assist with continuous evaluation and update of risk management plans and procedures.
Monitor budgets for assigned areas regularly. Assist in budget development and management. Purchase supplies as needed within established membership budget.
Serve as an active member in committees and work groups within the Department of Campus Recreation. Willingness to serve on campus/external committees outside of the department.
RECRUITMENT AND SALES
Create and implement systems to evaluate membership sales, including ongoing analysis of membership trends and market potential.
Work with Assistant Director to identify promotional opportunities and implement new strategies for increased membership sales and retention.
Assess interests of the dynamic community potentially served by the ARC and UC Davis Health Fitness Center; provide offerings for special interests, holiday passes, restricted-use passes, etc.
Develop and maintain updated marketing materials for outreach to potential members; collaborate with marketing unit to create effective campaigns to recruit new members and membership groups.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Supervision and leadership experience to recruit, hire, train, motivate and evaluate student staff.
Experience providing high quality customer service in a high traffic environment. Experience in handling conflict resolution.
Experience in a sales or membership environment. Experience in recreation member services, including market trends, data analysis, and recruitment and sales.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse students, staff, faculty, and others in the university community.
Proficiency in both oral and written communication to interact with a diverse community in a concise, effective, courteous and professional manner.
Current first aid, CPR, AED certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office and database management.
Experience with budget development and efficiently monitoring expenditures
Experience working with Fusion, Fusion Go and Freedom Pay
Master's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Ability to interpret, communicate, implement, and uphold policies and procedures
Management and organizational skills to plan, organize/determine workload priorities, meet deadlines, direct numerous and varied projects and activities, and to follow-up and troubleshoot issues.
Special Requirements
This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity checks.
