Job Title: Controller


Reports To: Business Unit General Manager and Parent Company CFO


The Opportunity:

A profitable midsized business is seeking a Controller to build and lead its finance and accounting function. Currently, several functions, including accounting, are provided by the parent company. Due to the company's substantial growth, there is now a need for a dedicated finance and accounting team.


Job Summary:

The Controller will be the top finance person responsible for establishing and leading a standalone Finance and Accounting Department. This role includes overseeing all finance and accounting activities, ensuring timely and accurate GAAP financials, and providing strategic financial insights to senior management. The Controller will also collaborate with the General Manager on other corporate functions such as human resources, legal, and risk management. This is a hands-on role in a lean organization where everyone, including senior management, actively contributes to day-to-day work and projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all back-office functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Responsible for preparing recurring GAAP financial statements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial information reporting including analysis and forecasting.
  • Improve and manage financial controls and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and support departmental budget holders.
  • Develop and implement financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage cash flow and working capital to meet operational needs.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a small finance and accounting team (2-3 people).
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and development.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial department operations.
  • Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.


Working Conditions:

  • This business operates in a fully remote environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training or other purposes.
