General Purpose of the Position

The position combines the characteristics of job within the operation of the credit union. Responsible for examining, evaluating and approving credit applications from members for direct/indirect consumer loans and lines of credit. Meets service standards for turn-around time and decision delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes the following). May perform other duties as requested or assigned.

  • Monitors loan Analyzes credit worthiness including character, capacity, collateral, capital and economic conditions. Reviews credit bureau reports and credit score.
  • Verifies information included on loan application, as necessary.
  • Prepares miscellaneous statistical reports.
  • Assumes responsibility for effectively receiving, reviewing and processing direct/indirect consumer loan applications within assigned levels of authority in accordance with established credit union loan policy and federal and state regulations.
  • Receives and resolves member loan complaints and counsels member on resolving problems.
  • Documents loan decision and required provisions necessary to complete the loan.
  • May work closely with each branch/member representative as needed to ensure that loan decisions are in the best interest of the member and credit union.
  • Work closely with supervisor regarding any indirect loan application relating to misrepresentation or fraud.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Work closely with supervisor regarding any loan recommendations where policy exceptions or lending authority is outside of set limits.
  • Prepare correspondence/adverse action letters as required within credit union policy and federal guidelines.
  • Assumes responsibility to contact members and follow up on loan denials for online and MSCC loan applications.
  • Follows up with member(s) on any first loan payment defaults.
  • Communicates effectively with dealers, members, and others outside the Credit Union.
  • Maintains positive, productive relationships with automobile dealers.
  • Maintains individual loan portfolio within profit/loss margin(s) as set by Senior Management.
  • Performs administrative and support tasks to complete the decision process when necessary.
  • Practice confidentiality and be able to work well under pressure.
  • Provides excellent service by demonstrating courtesy and personal concern for members and co-workers needs and follows-up to ensure those needs are met.
  • Adhere to all Federal and State laws and regulations applicable to the credit union, including the Bank Secrecy Act and OFAC.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent (GED), plus a minimum of two years lending (underwriting) experience with direct and indirect consumer loans within a financial institution.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to sit for long periods. The employee continually is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop and reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
