Our client is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Chief Estimator specializing in large commercial electrical projects. The successful candidate will lead our estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for complex electrical installations and systems within commercial buildings. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical construction, strong leadership skills, and the ability to develop precise cost estimates to support successful project bids and execution.


Key Responsibilities:

Estimating and Cost Analysis:

  • Lead Estimating Team:
  • Direct and oversee the estimating team in preparing detailed cost estimates for large-scale commercial electrical projects.
  • Review and validate all estimates to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and client requirements.
  • Prepare Cost Estimates:
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for electrical systems and components, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Utilize industry-standard estimating software and tools to create detailed and accurate estimates.
  • Bid Preparation:
  • Prepare and submit competitive bids for large commercial electrical projects, ensuring all bid documents are complete and submitted on time.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements and address any bid-related inquiries.
  • Cost Analysis:
  • Conduct thorough cost analysis to identify potential cost savings and efficiencies.
  • Provide detailed cost breakdowns and justifications for all estimates to support project decision-making and client negotiations.

Project Management Support:

  • Budget Development:
  • Assist project managers in developing project budgets based on approved estimates and project scope.
  • Monitor project budgets throughout the project lifecycle, providing updates and recommendations for cost control.
  • Risk Assessment:
  • Identify and assess potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize cost and schedule impacts.
  • Collaborate with project teams to address any cost-related risks or challenges.
  • Project Coordination:
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project goals and requirements.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to project teams regarding cost management and project execution.

Client and Stakeholder Communication:

  • Client Interaction:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding project estimates and bids.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing any questions or concerns related to project costs and estimates.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders, including subcontractors, suppliers, and engineers, to gather necessary information and ensure accurate estimates.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates on estimating activities and project status.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Quality Control:
  • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure all estimates meet company standards and project specifications.
  • Review and approve all estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission.
  • Compliance:
  • Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards, building codes, and client requirements.
  • Maintain necessary documentation and records for all estimating activities and project bids.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Team Management:
  • Lead and mentor the estimating team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, encouraging open communication and continuous improvement.
  • Training and Development:
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their estimating skills and knowledge.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve the estimating process.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical estimating, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focusing on large commercial electrical projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for complex electrical systems in commercial buildings.
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator - CPE) are preferred.
  • Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical construction practices, methods, and materials for large commercial projects.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide estimating teams effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Certifications:
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) are highly desirable.
  • Additional certifications related to electrical construction are a plus.
