Initiates, directs and executes bioinformation efforts and strategies in research and/or development; also, plans and executes laboratory analytic method research. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in bioinformation. Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences. Serves as in-house and outside consultant. May act as spokesperson on corporate research and development of patent applications. Interfaces with various departments. Scientists that are performing more specific research or bioinformation functions should be matched to the specific job description.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Develop and apply bioinformatics tools to process, analyze, and interpret high throughput datasets, including DNA-seq, RNA-seq.
- Apply biological and statistical knowledge to draw rigorous, actionable conclusions from complex data sets.
- Produce high quality written documentation of methods, algorithms, plans, and findings.
- Keep current with developing literature for the statistical analysis of NGS data using high throughput sequencing technologies and contribute these insights to the team.
- Communicate findings internally and externally.
- Collaborate with groups across the organization to support research projects.
- Participate in the preparation of written reports and oral presentations summarizing data analysis results, including detailed description of bioinformatics methods, detailed analysis of results, and synthesis of conclusions from summary tables.
- Demonstrate initiative to acquire new bioinformatics, statistical, or programming skills as needed.
