Assistant Director

The University Center for Human Values (UCHV) seeks an Assistant Director. UCHV fosters ongoing inquiry into ethical questions arising in private and public life. It supports teaching, research, and discussion of ethics and human values throughout the curriculum and across the disciplines at Princeton University. UCHV appoints or jointly appoints its own faculty and is home to a number of programs and activities, including (but not limited to): the Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellowship, the Graduate Prize Fellowship, the Values and Public Life (VPL) undergraduate minor, a cohort of early career scholars, an interdisciplinary colloquium on ethics and public affairs, and a lecture series on ethics and political philosophy. Each academic year, UCHV hosts a wide range of public events on topics related to human values, broadly defined.

The Assistant Director works closely with the Center's Director and Executive Committee to shape UCHV's medium- and long-term priorities, to translate these priorities into concrete policies and programs, and to oversee the Center's successful day-to-day operations. The Assistant Director's main areas of oversight include: (1) staff supervision, (2) academic administration, (3) fiscal oversight, (4) communications oversight, and (5) facilities and events management. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of UCHV, with a secondary reporting relationship to the Director of Academic Administration in Human Resources.

Budget and Financial Management: the Assistant Director is responsible for developing, updating, and monitoring UCHV's teaching and operating budgets with a high degree of accuracy. They are responsible for the compliant stewardship of the Center's endowed funds, as well as for administration for corporate and foundation gifts, and sponsored research.

Communications: working directly with the Center Director and Senior Communications Strategist, the Assistant Director develops and oversees UCHV's strategic plan for communications, with the goal of elevating the Center's visibility and broad impact.
