Prosum joined the L.A. Works Day of Service to revitalize the local community of Boyle Heights, where at least 40% of students are from low-income families. This day consisted of a wide variety of beautification projects at the community garden, public pre-school, elementary school, and local high school. We rolled up our sleeves and painted trash cans, park benches, and even large storage containers a lush forest green to restore the park. After a hard day’s work, the community of Boyle…

Over 20 students in the school’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) Pathways and i.am College Track program attended the workshop!

Mentors from Prosum discussed possible career paths in STEAM and also shared their own stories. Together, we walked through resume and cover letter guidelines and discussed the dos and don’ts of presenting themselves on paper. From there, the students broke up into small groups for some one-on-one interaction with a mentor of their choice. Each student received a flash drive preloaded with interview tips, a sample resume and cover letter, and a “cheat sheet” to work through with their mentor.
At the following interview workshop, we conducted mock interviews with the students to help them prepare for official interviews in the future.
