https://lnkd.in/eZqVrXjJ Ok, so DUI is looking at (and funding) sea based space launching of rockets to give more flexibility and options for launching. I like the idea but how do the rockets get there? Is it a “load on” at port idea and then emplace for launch or will there be a ferry of sorts? I wonder what the sea state limitations would be on rocket delivery. I have some port infrastructure ideas that could make this a reality but this concept begs a lot of logistics questions… Honestly, I am more interested in the other end of this, the recovery/reception of logistics packages on the other side of the globe. Let’s go Army Watercraft! You need to get into the future fight and provide better options for Commanders.

We believe the defense budget must match the priorities outlined in the National Defense Industrial Strategy, which includes the need to secure U.S. supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign sources. How would today's Autonomous Flight Termination systems (AFTS) from SpaceX, Blue Origin, ULA, etc. handle a scenario like this? With manned missions we draw the Instantaneous Impacts Points/Lines a bit wider to allow enough time for crew notification, if possible, but the Launch Abort Systems will protect the crew as exemplified in that New Shepard capsule separation a couple of years back. Now from a Public Safety perspective keeping the knowledge and accuracy requirement for the first 2000 ft of flight as tight as it currently is ensures minimum potential damage from a wildly veered off course rocket for whatever reason and enough stoppage distance for the safety ordnance to null as much as possible (powered flight vs physics such as momentum and gravity assisted) the forward motion of the rocket, thus ensuring no harm comes to those on the ground either in a Launch Control Center (LCC) or adjacent viewing areas to these rocket launches that always amaze our kids and us.

After an 18-month prototyping period, the United States Department of Defense and Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) announced two successful solutions in the High-Performance Compute Modernization Program (HPCMP). Rescale and Parallel Works demonstrated the ability to expand the scale and range of computing resources available within the DoD by integrating cloud-based HPC assets into the HPCMP’s existing Supercomputing Resource Centers. The DoD currently relies on a variety of on-premise computers to run compute-intensive workloads, such as deep neural networks, physics models, and engineering simulations. And although this approach has been effective so far, reliance on physical computers demands substantial investment in sourcing, purchasing, installing, and maintaining new hardware. Both vendors will be entering production contracts later this year. Read more below.

On a recent episode of ATARC (Advanced Technology Academic Research Center)’s “Doing Tech Better in Government” Omni’s Brian Fox was able to sit down with Jennifer Swanson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Data - Engineering - Software), ASA(ALT). During their discussion, Jennifer explored the topic of what the US Army is doing to evolve its current software development plans and processes. They are focused on adoption of modern software, data centricity and how to get there, as well as how to adopt digital engineering, cyber security and AI. She talked about the support that is needed to make the changes that are now required in today’s world. Brian and Jennifer addressed the new Army directive: Enabling Modern Software Development and Acquisition Practices and how Jennifer and her staff were involved in creating this new policy. Jennifer discussed the importance of enabling the Army to truly adopt modern software practices like Agile software development and continuous improvement and deployment. Essentially, the importance of user feedback right away to help deliver what the user needs when they need it.
