My big question of the week. Are you in favor or against your favorite sport league moving games from traditional broadcasts to streaming and why? Here is a great talk with Seth Ader from ESPN talking about the trends of the consumer that they see. I want to share my opinion, which is streaming is better for the fan. From the fans perspective, imagine cutting cable. Right now, either cable or streaming cable would be my (personal) biggest subscription I pay per month. Imagine the NFL moving exclusively to prime/netflix/paramount. The sole reason I have a cable streaming service is sports. And I already have prime/netflix/paramount because THAT is where the best non sports content lives. So tell me, what is your biggest hang up when it comes to moving to streaming?

Know the specifics of various targets groups national, international to see who you're communicating with as a sponsor is simply a prerequisite when deciding where and how to engage and, bottom line, spending your budget and resources. While "gut feeling" is nice, knowing your objectives and develop a route to success based on insights and facts is simply the sustainable way to get long-term success in sponsorship. You don't win championships on a feeling but sound knowledge of the discipline, continuous improvement and focus! #fundamentals 😉

I love the important role that athletes and professional sports leagues are playing in destigmatizing the topic of mental health. Not long ago, the notion of premier athletes discussing mental health struggles was viewed as a show of weakness. We have now seemingly hit a tipping point with a new generation of athletes who are comfortable showing their vulnerability and peeling back their emotional layers. As athletes continue to be increasingly open and let fans into their lives both literally and figuratively, I would encourage all marketers to think about how they can leverage athletes’ incredible cultural influence to make a truly positive impact on our society. #MoreThanAnAthlete #PurposeBasedMarketing

Appointment television, a hallmark of traditional TV, is no longer exclusive to linear live sports events. This year’s March Madness NCAA women’s championship, which aired on ESPN and ESPN+, was the most-watched college basketball game ever. Peacock’s exclusive NFL playoff game in January was the most-streamed live event in the U.S. ever. And so on. What do these record-breaking #livesports events have in common? They were all either exclusive to #streaming or were simulcast on a streaming platform. “[Streamers] are tapping into advertising as an additional revenue stream and in order to attract advertisers you need to demonstrate scale,” says Forrester's Mike Proulx. “What many brands covet is this idea of big tentpole moments.” Those moments don’t just include live sports, but live events in general as well as even original programming, as streamers gravitate away from the binge model popularized by #Netflix. But even Netflix has experimented with different release strategies for select originals. For its hit reality series Love Is Blind, Netflix aired the finale on its own at a specific time. The week that the episode debuted in March, the series drove 1.5 billion viewing minutes in the U.S., according to Nielsen; the finale accounted for a third of that, half of which came on the day of its release. A great question yesterday at the Sports Business Journal Brand Innovation Summit about what it is every (sports) marketer should know about Gen Z. Given at Xbox we sit at the crossroads of Gen Z, their greatest Passion and Marketing, one word that immediately came to mind, of what we see every day, was "Global." But I realized afterwards that didn't quite capture them. In reality, they are "Borderless" - there are no boundaries to what they See, Like and Consume, because vehicles like Instagram, TikTok. multiplayer online games (and more) democratize the flow of content and connection like never before. Which means GenZ is also more aware of everything happening around the world too. In :05-1min snippets. This Borderless Consumption creates consumers of Al-Nassr Ronaldo jerseys in Seattle, or fans in Milwaukee of Shiba-Inu videos from a young girl in India. To GenZ, it's all the same bucket. But it also greatly expands the reach every Brand, Sports Team and Athlete has, heretofore, never been able to communicate to so easily. Listen up: According to the report, 64% of self-identified sports fans said they “frequently” or “occasionally” listen to sports content. A larger majority (89%) said they watch sports content that often. • Sports podcasts are the leading audio format among Gen Z fans, 42% of whom said they “frequently” or “occasionally” listened to one in the past year, per the report. • Millennials listened to sports podcasts just as often as they listened to AM/FM sports radio over the air. • Older generations—Gen X and baby boomers—listened to AM/FM sports radio over the air or via online streams more often than podcasts.
