The war for talent is over. Last week, WorkStep held our quarterly Advisory Board meeting - an opportunity to gather 20 SVP and C-level leaders across retail, logistics, and manufacturing. How to fill openings and retain those hires has consistently been the top executive focus in recent years. But that’s changed. Yes, unemployment is still 4%, below historical norms. Yes, it is still hard to find great people and to fill any role if compensation isn’t competitive. Yet, now the areas of focus are much more diverse. With the talent market loosening and turnover trending down, Operations and HR leaders finally have the space to prioritize topics like: 1. Frontline leadership development and communication 2. Improving culture and morale to drive productivity gains 3. Engaging the full workforce in continuous improvement 4. Adopting AI to create operational efficiency While an ultra-tight labor market increases the investment that the average company puts into its teammates, it’s refreshing to see senior leaders who oversee a large workforce now able to think more strategically about how to make improvements for the people who drive their business forward.

Internal Recruiter 🤝 External Recruitment Partner Great to catch up with one of our clients on Friday out in New Jersey, well, other than trying to drive through NYC to get there and back. 🚗 Those of you who do drive in NYC traffic every day... how??? 😱 Anyway, the experience working together has been extremely smooth, and with businesses & people coming in all shapes and sizes, it got me thinking about what makes for a good relationship between Internal Recruitment & External Recruiters. Here's what I think works: - Honesty & transparency 🗣️ - Regular recurring calls (not just emails) 📞 - Real listening skills to hear what the other is saying 👂 - Us VS the problem instead of me VS you 🤝 - Understanding each other's personal goals/targets/motivations 🎯 - Openness to take on advice & constructive feedback 📝 Here's where I see Internal VS External recruiter relationships breakdown: - Deception & selective communication 🕵️‍♂️ - Misaligned goals 🎯❌ - Stubbornness & ego-driven decisions 😤 - Inflexibility to each other's needs 🚫 As I read this back, I realize this could probably apply to almost any business or personal relationship, which tells me... people are people. I can probably summarize this to say that treating each other with basic honesty & respect can generally get you quite far. 🙂
