DISA released their 2025-2029 Strategy last week. If you read between the lines, there's a few interesting things, but one item in particular stands out to me. Here are 4 major imperatives that I gravitated toward: ▶ Operational Imperative 1.1: Provide Relevant, Modern Enterprise And Business Tools ▶ Operational Imperative 2.1: Operationalize the Cloud ▶ Operational Imperative 3.2: Divest Technical Debt ▶ Strategic Imperative 4: Operationalize Data Additionally, these goals got my attention: ▶ Goal 2: Hybrid Cloud Environment ▶ Goal 6: Zero Trust Tools ▶ Goal 7: Data Management Putting these imperatives and goals together leads to secured, delocalized applications and data, utilizing modern and emerging tools to put data to work in hybrid cloud environments. This all makes sense to me. When I look at these areas of focus, I can't help but think AI is the unspoken target of much of this, though AI isn't specifically mentioned. Not once. But if you're targeting modern tools, tech debt reduction, zero trust, and data, AI is clearly in the mix. DISA Expands Thunderdome Zero Trust Program Deployment; Brian Hermann, Quoted. ExecutiveGov discusses the Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) expansion of the Thunderdome zero trust program. In 2023, the program was deployed to 15 sites and plans are underway to extend it to 60 more sites in 2024. Automation is transforming government agencies by streamlining processes, reducing manual workloads, and enhancing efficiency. For federal agencies, like the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, automation has significantly boosted efficiency, enabling the approval of over 1 million PACT ACT claims. A chance to listen to Shweta Mulcare, is a chance to learn about how you can architect system of systems (SoS) to be safer, more transparent, and actionable. In addition to being a visionary data scientist, she factors cultural elements into her equations.
