System Development and Maintenance
-
Sole developer and support person for a comprehensive business management / accounting system designed for Fuel Distributors, serving the Southeastern US. This system includes receiving, sales, accounts receivable, inventory management, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger.
-
Centralized Back-Office Management System
-
Designed and built a modular system for back-office control of convenience store cash registers. This system utilized the C# language with a WPF presentation layer and EF data layer talking to an Azure SQL database. This allowed the central office to upload price changes and new item records to the Gilbarco Passport cash registers using XML files. Daily sales files were transferred to the central office into the accounting system.

RPGII Modernization
-
Designed and built a dotnet version of the midrange language RPGII. This allowed us to take our extensive RPGII codebase to the future. There were hundreds of screens and thousands of programs that needed ported from RPGII to dotnet. I built a conversion system which converted the existing code to dotnet taking the screens to Windows Forms, the programs to dotnet classes, the data schema to T-SQL, and the reports to a custom reporting program I wrote that produced a rtf output. A fellow developer wrote a converter for the OCL scripts.
I was looking for an outcome which allowed me to fully convert a customer in the field with very limited downtime and no loss of data. I designed and wrote a fully automatic conversion system for their data using my many years of experience in data conversion. This was built as a system that would read a collection of custom XML schema files and output directly into SQL server tables, applying data filters and reporting each table’s progress. This allowed much flexibility as new modules were converted into dotnet.
At completion we could take an existing customer’s backup at the end of the business day and perform a full conversion of all data from the flat file system to Microsoft SQL Server in one evening. The system was converted to keep the overall look and operation of the legacy system. This required minimal re-training of their employees. -
Data Conversion Systems
-
Designed and built frameworks for converting customers data from their various platforms into our data format. This greatly reduced the amount of manual entry required when we acquired a new customer.
-
Custom Printing System for Legacy Codebase
-
Designed and built modules in VB6 for the printing of reports and custom forms on laser printers. This replaced the print subsystem of our legacy software system. For the first time our customers were able to print what had required custom forms using copy paper and a laser printer. Some of these modules are still used today.
-
Fuel Card Import Module
-
Designed and built a system using the newly released dotnet framework to import transactional fuel purchases from third party fuel card systems into our Sales system. This allowed our customers to have an integrated AR system for their customers and process an integrated statement.
-
Internal Customer Relationship Management System
-
Built a customer support app in Microsoft Access used by our software support team. Around 2013 I moved the tables to SharePoint online to support a distributed work environment.
-
Teletouch
-
Updated a customer deployed IVR software system used for remote data collection at customer locations.
