Horse Creek, one of Wyoming's longest continuous running creeks, is home to a diverse range of native plains fish species, many of which are considered species of concern. However, irrigation for downstream producers can make it challenging for fish to move freely. To address this, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and Goshen County Irrigation District collaborated on an innovative lateral fish diversion, designed by WWC’s Laramie office. This new structure, alongside an upgraded one nearby, opens up an additional 23 miles of connected habitat. It allows fish to navigate up and downstream without disrupting irrigation, ensuring they can access necessary habitats for spawning and juvenile rearing. This project not only supports species of greatest conservation need but also sustains riparian corridors, showcasing the power of collaboration in conserving Wyoming's fish resources. WWC is surveying for AXE Build at Black Tooth Park in Sheridan. We staked disturbance limits to prepare for topsoil stripping (occurring today). The project includes 2,381 feet of concrete pathways, 1,000 feet of curb, parking areas, utility access, and picnic spots. At the center will be Sheridan’s first inclusive playground, welcoming users of all abilities. This project is funded by GPET, Public Benefit, and a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant. WWC recently worked with over a dozen irrigation districts in Montana to apply for DNRC Renewable Resource Grants to help improve, rehabilitate and modernize aging infrastructure within their canal systems. WWC is in the Arctic! WWC recently completed the fieldwork for the Olmstead Mine Cleanup Project, located near Wiseman, Alaska, 60 miles into the Arctic Circle. Site access involved a 7-hour drive from Fairbanks on the Dalton Highway, followed by 13 miles via snowmobile up the remote Gold Creek drainage in the Brooks Range. The scope of work included WWC’s subcontractor, Wrangell Outfitters, dismantling two buildings, removing all waste, cutting a bulldozer and trommel into pieces that could be freighted by snowmobile, and excavating limited quantities of contaminated soil by hand. Wrangell hauled over 20 snowmobile loads out to the highway. WWC oversaw environmental cleanup and collected confirmation samples following cleanup. The WWC team has completed all but the final report in less than 6 months, with the bulk of the work occurring in February and March in temperatures ranging from -40 to 30 F. The Olmstead Project demonstrates WWC’s success in growing our business in the environmental and federal sectors, and serving states beyond Wyoming and Montana. #earthdayeveryday #alaskawilderness #leaveitbetter #environmentalcleanup

The historic Crowley Block in Lewistown, MT, built in 1913, has been undergoing significant transformations. Under the EPA's Brownfields program, this project has focused on addressing environmental concerns, such as asbestos and lead paint. The remediation process required collaboration with numerous parties including Snowy Mountain Development Corporation, the EPA and others. The building will soon house the One Health Clinic, offering a range of medical services on a sliding fee scale, with plans to include dental and pharmacy services. The upper floors are being converted into affordable housing for low-income families, expected to open in June. WWC has been recognized with SMDC’s 2023 Partnership of the Year Award for their efforts in revitalizing downtown Lewistown.
