We received a letter from an employee at one of our valued suppliers, NXP: In September, I was test driving the 2024 Hyundai Ionic 5. We had a full car; driver, passenger, and two people in the backseat.  My speed was minimal since I had just accelerated from a stop at the light, when a teenage driver T-boned me at full speed at an intersection by running a red light.   The brunt of the impact was on the front passenger side, my car spun around a full 360 degrees and ended up scraping the back passenger side on the tail end of the other car. No impact to the back of the car, the front, or the driver’s sides. We noted that only the airbags on the passenger side door and the back passenger side had deployed. All other airbags were still inactive. In fact, the airbag deployment was so precise that we all walked away with only a few minor bruises.   Later, we were told that during a collision, in which airbags deploy, it is equally important to know which ones should not deploy. If the other airbags had deployed, there would likely have been other injuries, like broken wrists and fingers, broken bones due to airbag impact… minor, considering our lives would’ve been saved, but superfluous in this case.   Our crash was a prime example of the precision and accuracy of the passive safety system, and we were very grateful to be able to walk away from the collision with as few consequences as we did. Many thanks to Veoneer and NXP for making such superior automotive safety products. Best regards, Mayura Engineer at NXP
