About us

The United States Japan Exchange & Teaching Program Alumni Association (USJETAA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational and cultural organization that promotes grassroots friendship and understanding between the United States and Japan through the personal and professional experiences of over 40,000 Americans who have participated on the JET Program since its inception in 1987. USJETAA was created by the JET alumni community for the JET alumni community! Purposes -Serve as a resource for JET alumni, JETAA chapters nationwide, and potential JET participants. -Support the network of JETAA chapters in programming, membership recruitment, chapter management, leadership, professional development, and fundraising. -Facilitate collaboration and information sharing among JETAA chapters. -Serve as a national clearinghouse for information on chapters, careers, educational opportunities, and U.S.-Japan relations. -Serve as a point of contact for organizations interested in partnering with JETAA chapters. -Provide membership services for individual JET alumni not associated with a JETAA chapter. -Support the JET Program and the JET community as appropriate. -Undertake national charitable initiatives. -Promote cross-cultural understanding between Japan and the United States, and support the U.S.-Japan relationship.

The holiday was first designated to celebrate the Meiji Emperor and the sailing of his iron steamship, the Meiji Maru, but has evolved into a day to spend time with friends and families at the beach, on a boat, or visiting an aquarium. Through USJETAA’s University Partnerships Program, Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) has recently established a scholarship for their Master in Management (MiM) for JET alumni. This scholarship is a welcome addition to their previously established scholarships and fee waivers offered to JET and alumni in the Graduate College of Education and Continuing Education courses.   • Do you have an innovative project or event idea that you’d like funding to support? If you’ve been mulling over how to make an impact in your JET community, this is your chance! This microgrant program provides small grants (typically $200-$1,000) to current US JETs to fund projects in their local Japanese communities which introduce American culture and/or English language to students or community members. Microgrants are administered via USJETAA and funding is generously provided by the U.S. Embassy Tokyo. You must be a US citizen who is currently participating in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program(me) to apply.
