About us
The United States Trustee Program (USTP) is the component of the Department of Justice responsible for overseeing the administration of bankruptcy cases and private trustees under 28 U.S.C. § 586 and 11 U.S.C. § 101, et seq. We are a national program with broad administrative, regulatory, and litigation/enforcement authorities whose mission is to promote the integrity and efficiency of the bankruptcy system for the benefit of all stakeholders–debtors, creditors, and the public. The USTP consists of an Executive Office in Washington, DC, and 21 regions with 90 field offices nationwide. Privacy Notice. Standing #trustees administer cases filed under chapter 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code with responsibility for, among other things, evaluating the #financial affairs of the debtor, making recommendations to the court regarding confirmation of the debtor’s repayment plan, and administering the court-approved repayment plan by collecting payments from the debtor and disbursing the funds to creditors. The USTP is seeking talented, motivated individuals with business, managerial, consulting, operational, or mediation experience for appointment as chapter 11 subchapter V trustees in the Southern District of California, San Diego, and the Central District of California, Los Angeles Division. In this position, you would be a member of a pool of subchapter V trustees who are available for appointment by the U.S. Trustee on a case-by-case basis to administer cases filed under the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019 (Subchapter V) in the district. The primary goal of a subchapter V #trustee is to facilitate the confirmation of a consensual plan of reorganization for small business debtors. Private trustees are not government employees, but they work in concert with the USTP to ensure the efficiency and integrity of the #bankruptcy system.
