Redefining what's possible in organ transplantation

About us

TransMedics Inc. is the world’s leader in portable ex-vivo perfusion and assessment of donor organs for transplantation. The company was founded to address the need for more and better organs for transplantation, and is focused on transforming the standard of care – increasing organ utilization, improving patient outcomes, and reducing transplant costs throughout the health care system. Here is another real world positive impact of TransMedics’ OCS Liver and NOP to increase utilization of DCD livers for transplantation. In 2023, the US liver transplant volume grew by 12% primarily because of this impact. Again, TMDX NOP can do more to continue to drive additional growth in liver, heart and lung transplants in the US! We are grateful for donor families, our transplant centers who entrusted to procure and manage OCS perfusion for them and our world-class TMDX Team who is making this transformation a clinical reality!

It's encouraging to see non-utilization rates decreasing for hearts (left) and livers (right) from DCD donors. As far as I can tell, this is primarily driven by innovation/technology/change in practice and not by any particular policy aimed at decreasing non-utilization. As someone who thinks a lot about policy, and how policy can be crafted to achieve certain ends (e.g., decreasing non-utilization), things like this always give me pause.

The OCS Heart and NOP were used for ~70% of the DCD heart transplanted in the US in 2023, resulting in the lion’s share of the 13% growth of the national heart transplant volume in 2023! We can do more! Grateful to donor families, our clinical users and our world-class NOP clinical and logistics teams!

Finally, there is now a little bit of information around normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) in the Donation and Transplant System Explorer. NRP is not explicitly captured as a data element, so we inferred NRP if the time from declaration of death to cross clamp is longer than 30 minutes for DCD donors. Below is the trend of DCD heart transplants stratified by whether the transplant was done with or without NRP. https://lnkd.in/gBq95htt

Congratulations to the Tufts Heart Transplant program and team for their success in growing their volumes with the help of TransMedics Heart NOP program. We are proud to be their partners and excited to continue supporting their growth in 2024. OCS NOP eliminates historical cold ischemia time and distance limitations, enabling more distant procurement of donor organs that historically were seldomly used for transplants. Thanks to the hard work of the TMDX NOP and Logistics team, we are shaping the future of organ transplantation in the US. #TransMedics #HeartNOP #Beatinghearttransplants #Heartinabox #OrganTransplantation #HealthcarePartnerships

TransMedics NOP program is expanding the reach and capabilities of transplant programs across the US to grow their transplant volumes to help patients in need. Here is our TMDX NOP Team supporting 3 organs for a major SE transplant program and another TMDX NOP Team supporting 4 organs at a major SW transplant program in the US! Shout out to our dedicated TMDX NOP teams across the US and our logistics teams who are making these cases a clinical reality every day. Keep up the GREAT work. TMDX NOP is redefining whats possible in organ transplants!
