If you can tolerate listening to me hold forth for 7 minutes and want to learn more about grid-related carbon accounting, take a look at this clip from a recent panel discussion at the LF Energy Open Sustainability Policy Summit in Washington, D.C. I touch on the differences between attributional accounting (location-based and market-based) and consequential accounting (project-based or avoided emissions), 24/7 vs. emissionality, and the complexity of tagging EACs with avoided emissions data. If you agree or disagree with any of the points I make, let me know what you think! To watch the entirety of the panel, click the link in the comments. I’d highly recommend, given that it was a wonderful discussion and my fellow panelists Katie Soroye, James Critchfield, and Killian Daly said many insightful things. #CarbonAccounting #GHGEmissions #LFEnergy

It was wonderful to convene at the Massachusetts State House this morning to celebrate the many Greentowners who were named to TIME's 2024 list of Top Greentech Companies including Blackburn Energy, Inc., Clean Crop Technologies, Inc., Eden, Form Energy, LineVision, Nth Cycle, SparkCharge, Sublime Systems, Singularity Energy, and Malta Inc, with Governor Maura Healey, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, Sec. Yvonne Hao, Sec. Rebecca L Tepper, Undersecretary Ashley Stolba, and MassCEC CEO Emily Reichert! Thank you all of the champions in the MA Administration and legislature whose support for climatetech innovation enables these startups to start, grow, and stay in MA. The MA representation on the list is proof that the Commonwealth is a leading #climatetech hub and can continue to drive progress and innovation across the industry for many years to come. Big thanks also to the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership for hosting a fantastic panel discussion with some of MA's successful climatetech startup leaders, including our alumni Hudson Gilmer of LineVision, Joshua Aviv of SparkCharge, and Shreya Dave of Via Separations, who shared insights about the key support mechanisms that enabled their development and growth in the state. It's been a privilege and a pleasure to have their teams within the Greentown community over the years and we're enormously proud of all they've achieved!

🤔 "How do you manage both an annual and hourly green tariff program in unison if you're a utility?" -- Karl Breustedt from our team recently sat down with Maddie Emerson from TRC Companies, Inc. on the "Energy Talks" podcast to discuss this very question. Here's a clip from that podcast where Karl explains how Singularity Energy is helping utility customers, such as Southern Company, manage both their annual and hourly green tariff programs in tandem. Link to the full episode in the comments, which also includes great insights from McGee Young of WattCarbon, Eli Gerson of Ameren, and Patrick Hosty from Constellation. #greentariffs #ghgemissions #decarbonization

Southern Company is a leading energy provider serving 9 million customers across the Southeast and beyond through its family of companies. We are excited to announce our collaboration with their team on a pilot to provide them and their customers with hourly grid carbon reporting. Many of Southern’s customers, including the U.S. government’s General Service Administration (GSA), are increasingly seeking visibility into their Scope 2 carbon emissions to better inform decarbonization strategies. The hourly energy emissions data that will be calculated and shared via Singularity’s platform will allow organizations like the GSA to better understand their Scope 2 emissions, including hourly time matching of load and generation, for electricity delivered to their load within Southern Company’s service footprint. As noted by Clay Rikard, VP of System Planning for Southern Company, “Tying carbon emissions to a specific customer’s usage is complex, and as we continue to innovate, collaborations like this one with Singularity will help us more efficiently and economically advance emerging solutions our customers expect.” For more information about our pilot with Southern Company visit their newsroom article or reach out to our team. https://lnkd.in/e_gBffrs
As we continue our journey to net-zero GHG emissions, many customers are increasingly seeking visibility into their carbon emissions to better inform decarbonization strategies. To respond to customer expectations, we are proud to engage with Singularity Energy, an advanced carbon and clean energy management software platform for utilities and grid operators. The grid carbon data platform is aimed at offering transparency to customers regarding their energy mix. Founded by a team with diverse expertise in power systems, carbon accounting and software development, Singularity is backed by Energy Impact Partners and other energy investors.
