Friday was a field day for Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH)’s Oakland office interns! Professor Gayle Johnson gave a tutorial on the rehabilitation of concrete navy pier repurposed into a park. Last week, SGH kicked off restoration work for the dome and cupola at the Massachusetts State House: https://lnkd.in/eCZZxNav We’re conducting a planning study to determine the next steps to restore these iconic Boston structures, which were originally completed in 1798. The renovation will be the first significant work conducted in over a decade. SGH’s Edward Andrews is pictured rappelling down the dome with Vertical Access’s Tuli Kuckes and Patrick Capruso as part of the initial study.

This Friday, July 12, SGH’s David Artigas, PE will highlight the four critical barriers of building enclosures: waterproofing, insulation, air barrier, and vapor barrier. The presentation will cover design principles that generate effective barriers, identify common sources of failure in building enclosures, and demonstrate concepts for selecting and installing resilient air barriers.
