ICYMI: Sentara's Talent Acquisitions team hosted a successful event for medical assistant students at East Coast Polytechnic Institute (ECPI )! 🎉 This event provides future healthcare professionals with an overview of what we have to offer at Sentara and the opportunity to connect with practice managers at Velocity Urgent Care and Sentara Medical Group to get an inside scoop on what it would be like to join our team. This early interest exposure has placed many of ECPI's students in our medical practices, ultimately leading to job placement and offers before graduation. ✨ #MedicalAssistant #HealthcareCareers

We are always working to improve care through crisis training with our employees. At Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, more than 100 employees joined a mass casualty drill with realistic-looking patients from an apartment fire. The drill was designed to challenge our emergency department, inpatient, and surgery teams to manage a surge of patients during a busy day in the SNGH emergency department. We appreciate the partnership with Norfolk Fire and Emergency Medical Services for transporting patients to the hospital in a realistic manner to help us deliver on our mission to improve health every day. #ImprovingHealth #MedicalTraining

Congratulations to Amanda Ingemi, clinical pharmacy coordinator at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy, for being one of the authors of a recent publication in the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. Amanda's contributions to this literature provide updated international guidelines on Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD anticoagulation). These devices are crucial for helping the heart pump blood effectively. Thank you, Amanda, for your continued dedication to clinical advancements and to Sentara. We are so proud of you! 👏 #SentaraProud

Congratulations to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital President, Dana Weston Graves, on being named by Virginia Business in the 2024 Virginia Women in Leadership Awards! This award highlights 38 trailblazing women in executive roles who are shaping Virginia. Dana has been recognized multiple times on Becker’s Hospital Review’s annual list of women hospital presidents and CEOs to know. But recognition for Graves feels “strange,” she says because she feels she’s doing exactly what she’s supposed to do every day. But, “the opportunity to be recognized as a strong African American leader or strong woman leader is meaningful because it allows someone else to see themselves reflected in leadership.” Thank you, Dana, for your commitment to preserving and serving better health outcomes for all. #SentaraProud #ImprovingHealth #HospitalAdministration Click the link here: https://bit.ly/3VLJmWM to read more!

We love to read patient success stories like Kenneth Outlaw's. Kenneth's life was constantly being interrupted thanks to an enlarged prostate, a common medical issue experienced by more than half of men over 50 years old. “Realizing I was part of the statistics was an eye-opener,” said Kenneth. “You look around and ask: why don’t people know about this? It’s because people don’t talk about it.” But Kenneth spoke up about his symptoms and underwent a relatively new medical procedure, called Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE), which shrinks the prostate by 10-40% within 3 months. “I've had grown men cry during their follow-up appointment with me because they got their life back,” said Dr. Adam Lustig, an interventional radiologist who performed Kenneth's procedure. Kenneth said his quality of life has improved 100%, and can do anything he wants without worry. We're grateful to have such skilled, innovative medical teams improving health every day! Congratulations to Professor James White, MSN, RN, for his recent DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty! Professor White isn't just an educator, he's an inspiration. He was nominated 5 times for this prestigious international nursing award. Students at the @Sentara College of Sciences rave about his dedication, encouragement, and ability to meet their needs. "He shared a mantra that stuck with me: 'You come in with butterflies, but the goal is to learn and fly straight,'" says one student. "He makes you feel like he truly wants you to succeed." Congratulations, Professor White! We're incredibly grateful to have you as part of the Sentara family. #DAISYAward #NursingExcellence #SentaraProud
