Earlier this week, kids from 15 households joined Seeds of Caring to kick off the Madam Walker Legacy Center Summer Institute Power Hour, striking “power poses” to tap into their inner power, learning about real life social justice superheroes and making “Use your Voice” signs to help shape a kinder, more connected world. Special thanks to Mr. Griff for being the most engaging MC ever and high-fives to his trusty co-host, Jenisys, and to all the superhero kids who used their voices! We’re honored to take part in such an impactful initiative. The FREE Madam Walker Summer Institute Virtual Power Hours are from 1p-2p ET on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from July 9th-31st. The series focuses on STEAM topics, and promises to be both fun and informative for students ages 6-14. We love this Ask Lisa episode about 5 things to focus on with our kids over the Summer. It's an oldie, but a goodie! If #4 and #5 from her list interest you, we've got you covered. 🧡💚 FUN FACT: Lisa Damour PHD is 1 of the 2 psychologists who consulted as a Science Advisor for the film Inside Out 2 which recently came out in theaters. #AskLisa #SummerActivitiesForKids #AgeAppropriateService #ThePsychologyOfParenting #DrLisaDamour #ReenaNinan

🙌🙌🙌 THE FINAL TALLY IS IN! During the first 25 days of June, 22 Columbus Kindness Coalition members committed to raising $1,000/+ each for Seeds of Caring. And because these members met their individual fundraising goals, four generous families pooled their dollars to provide a total of $25,000 in matching gift support. THANK YOU, matching donors! 🎺 WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE TOTAL RAISED = $49,444! This year, members got creative hosting fundraisers such as a family yoga class, all in the name of raising up more kind kids! Thank you to all of our Kindness Coalition members and their families for making this effort possible, and for believing with us in the power of kindness and the capacity for our kids to change the world. Earlier this month we celebrated the conclusion of our 2023-24 PLANT Program. Beginning in June of '23, this cohort of 68 participants ages 11-14 made a HUGE impact on our community. Check out these stats: ⏰ 740 combined volunteer hours ✅ 323 completed activities ranging from event co-leading to supply prep (toothpaste, anyone?) to collecting porch-dropped donations, and more. ❤️ Countless lessons learned—both big and small—that they will carry with them for years to come. Along the way they developed leadership skills, encouraged one another, and built self-confidence. To say we are impressed is a total understatement! We are thrilled that 36 of these participants will be returning for the 2024-25 cohort, consisting of 54 Peer Leaders. THANK YOU, kind kids, for your dedication, hard work, big hearts, and for caring so deeply for our community. Our collective future looks promising with you at the wheel. Friends, please join us in saying “CONGRATS” to this cohort of kindness! 🎉 🧡👩🏼🎓🧑🏽🎓 #SeedsOfCaringPLANTProgram #PeerLeader #LeadershipDevelopment #YoungLeaders #FutureLeaders #KidVolunteering #NeverTooYoungToMakeADifference #ColumbusNonprofits #KindIsCool

One of the components unique to our inaugural PLANT Program (2023-24 cohort) was the Sunshine Grant Project. Peer Leaders were invited to apply for grant funding so that they could develop, plan, and lead special community-building events. The impact? Pretty amazing! ☀️ 🥍 12-year-old Eliot collected over 700 pieces of sporting equipment equating to nearly $11k for kids supported by Leveling the Playing Field, Inc.! 🏳️🌈 12-year-old Violet fundraised $820 for Kaleidoscope Youth Center, Inc. through her booth, Prideful Self Love, at a kids maker market where she sold sweets she baked herself! 🐈⬛ 13-year-old Kat led 50+ kids in creating 100+ cat toys, collected $275 in goods for Colony Cats and Dogs Adoption Center, and fundraised over $300 to cover the spay/neuter of 9 cats! Thank you, Eliot, Violet, and Kat for all of your hard work and proving that you are never too young to make a difference. You are helping to make all of our futures so bright that we have to wear shades! 😎 #PLANTProgram #PeerLeadersAspiringForANewTomorrow #LevelingThePlayingField #KYCOhio #ColonyCats #KidLeaders #MakingADifference #MicroGrants #KindIsCool
