As we continue to make and improve our yarns, it is nice to look back at our first melt spinning trials, which really validated to us that we could make #Bylon multifilament yarns. Oliver Shafaat wrote an article in collaboration with Jonathan Hunter, PhD at FET - Fibre Extrusion Technology about that work. Take a read in the International Fiber Journal March/April 2024 issue linked below. Link to article: https://lnkd.in/gNsXHq6a #fiberinnovation, #sustainability

Bylon™: the complete sustainable apparel fiber replacement, at the scale we need
About us
Sci-Lume Labs’ Bylon is the truly circular apparel fiber that can replace conventional fibers like nylon, polyester, and cotton. Bylon is made from biobased agricultural waste; is 100% recyclable and biodegradable; can drop into existing manufacturing facilities; offers familiar performance versatility; and is compatible with conventional downstream yarn and textile processing. Bylon can significantly abate industry emissions and, by delivering both circularity and commercial viability, is uniquely capable of achieving the large-scale adoption needed to enable a circular apparel future.

How cool are big, fast-moving, machines! It is mesmerizing to watch #Bylon yarn be wound around a bobbin. Looking forward to processing this yarn into some new textiles. #meltspinning, #efficientmanufacturing, #fiberinnovation

What is this…a tie for ants. No, Ben Stiller, it is a tie for toddlers. Take a look at our first knit garment, a necktie. The finishing really tested Oliver’s sewing skills. We dyed it black using natural Rit dyestuffs. The #Bylon yarns were knit with no trouble thanks to the wonderful Knit Resort. Oliver hand twisted and plied the yarns prior to knitting—after doing some drawing, which gave it standard polyester strength. As designed, the filament yarn was made using standard melt-spinning equipment at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. Not too shabby for our second yarns. #zoolander, #sustainablefibers, #circularity
