Despite the rainy weather this past Saturday, we were still able to hold our Annual Staff Appreciation BBQ party to thank and celebrate our amazing staff! Staff and their families from across our association came together to celebrate the hard work that gets put into the Saratoga Regional YMCA each and every day. It was a memorable afternoon complete with Rollin' Smoke BBQ, Dairy Haus ice cream, an ice cream eating contest, raffles, giveaways, a bounce house, face painting, games, music, and more! Thank you to our Y United Committe for planning and executing a wonderful event! We really have the best staff!

Yesterday we celebrated Juneteenth - a remarkable milestone in our nation’s history that honors freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. Juneteenth recognizes the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates the spirit of unity and progress. We celebrated Juneteenth with an event put on by Our Lodge Foundation, MLK Saratoga, and Frederick Allen Lodge 609 and was held at our very own Saratoga Springs Branch! This incredible event included poetry, music, dancing, reenactments, and more. As an organization that embraces diversity, inclusivity, and social equality, we stand in solidarity with the movement and remind ourselves of the work that still lies ahead in creating a more just and equitable society for all.

What an incredible day at our 34th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, held at Saratoga Lake Golf Course!⛳️ The Annual Golf Tournament benefits our Annual Campaign, ensuring all children in our community can attend summer camp. We believe it is vital that all children have access to a safe and welcoming place to go over the summer, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. We are beyond excited to announce we raised over $75,000 from the tournament!🙌 We are grateful for all major sponsors, who allowed this day to happen. Additional thanks to all participants for an incredibly fun day and all staff involved for making the event run so smooth. We already can’t wait for next year’s tournament!❤️

Meet our new camp director, Tiffany! Tiffany joined our school age child care team in the fall and she is excited about a great first summer at Camp TOGA! Her favorite thing about summer camp is seeing all of the campers grow and develop new friendships. When Tiffany is not at the Y, she loves to ski, go to New Hampshire, and spend time with her three kids who will be at camp this summer. We are looking forward to a fantastic summer here at the SRYMCA!

Last week, the Saratoga Regional Y ran our annual LIVESTRONG Spring Luncheon at The Saratoga Hilton , and it was a HUGE success! LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free 12-week program that strives to help survivors move beyond cancer in mind, body and spirit. To date, we’ve helped over 400 survivors regain their strength and stamina through this program, and we are determined to expand our impact. We’re proud to announce that we raised over $25,000 from our spring luncheon, all thanks to the many sponsors, donors, volunteers, and community partners that keep this program thriving. With these funds, we are able to continue offering this program free of cost to all participants. 🏊♀️Water Safety Month tip #2 from Patty: "Reach, Throw, DON'T GO!" When we see someone struggling in the water, our first instinct may be to jump in and help them out. However, someone struggling in water is going to be panicking and their initial response is to grab onto anything (or anyone) they see for support. Their survival-mode strength could push you under and put you both in serious danger. ✅REACH If you are in arm's length of the struggling individual, lay on your stomach and reach out to them. If you are unable to reach the individual with your hand, try using an elongated item such as a pole, paddle, or sturdy tree branch. ✅THROW If a person in need is out of your reach, the next best option is to throw an object that floats to them. This could be a kick-board, beach ball, ring buoy, or empty picnic cooler. ✅DON'T GO A distressed or panicked person will always cause you to be in danger as they attempt to use you as a flotation device to save themselves. Only a lifeguard should get in the water to help a person in trouble!
