Happy Juneteenth! This Independence Day is a meaningful celebration to all of us: It’s the day all Americans gained their freedom. Read the San Diego County Board of Education resolution at https://bit.ly/45x72T7. We’re all familiar with the July 4 Independence Day, where we gather with family and our community to celebrate America’s freedom with the Declaration of Independence in 1776. But it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, when news of the Emancipation Proclamation made it to Black Americans who were enslaved in the Southwestern portion of the country that freedom became something for all Americans. Freedom for all, that's worth celebrating. SDCOE offices will be closed today (June 19, 2024) in honor of the federal holiday.
