As we celebrate our nation’s independence and liberty, we are reminded that for the past 30 years, Rincon has enjoyed the freedom to work with clients and teaming partners who have a shared vision to better the communities where we live, work, and play. May today be a time of celebration for and with those we cherish - Happy July 4th!

Last week, an amazing group of people gathered in Sun Valley, Idaho to share ideas, stories and experiences; members of Tugboat Institute, leaders of Evergreen® companies. A community of like-minded, driven, and passionate people that are building companies to last, endure and thrive. I was proud to represent the company I have helped build over the last 22 years, Rincon Consultants, Inc. At this year's annual Summit, a new acknowledgement was presented, the inaugural Best Evergreen Companies™ list. Rincon Consultants, Inc. is one of only 36 companies in the world to be awarded Certified Evergreen Status (this number will grow as this movement catches on). Through a rigorous evaluation process, each company is weighed and measured against The Tugboat Institute Evergreen 7Ps® principles: Purpose Perseverance People First Private Profit Paced Growth Pragmatic Innovation Only the top 25 were selected. As the names were being announced, I was asked if I expected to make the list. I replied that I did not, and as it turns out, we did not make the inaugural list. I was in no way disappointed, not one bit. Why? We are young-in-spirit on this journey, and we know where we need to continue improving, and where we are succeeding within our independent success driven ethos focused on delivering value to our clients. We have a lot to learn and a lot to do. Of those that were selected, many have been engaged and involved in evergreen-style best practices for decades…a couple nearing or over 100 years old…and are much further along than we are, hence my expectations. Still, I was curious. I wanted to know where our amazing company stood amongst the giants in the top 25. As it turns out we were within a couple of points of making the list. I share this as I cannot express what an accomplishment and sense of validation this brings me for the work we have done and continue to do to build a purposeful organization, a community motivated to create a legacy for future generations, inspiring positive change in our communities and natural environments while building strong, lasting relationships based in trust and fairness. Happy National Safety Month! As proud members of the National Safety Council, we celebrated Safety Month internally in May, reinforcing our commitment to safety as a cornerstone of our people-centric philosophy. This year, we continued our Safe + Certain campaign, focusing on key safety topics relevant to our teams, from the office to the field. Throughout the month of May, we released informative topics on essential safety practices, followed by quizzes to test our team’s knowledge. June is here and so is Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 Our celebration of Pride shows our support and solidarity with the many LGBTQ+ team members, family, and friends who are part of our communities. We are proud to provide an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and accepted for who they are. Here are some key facts that underscore the significance of LGBTQ+ representation and reinforce the importance of fostering an inclusive environment: 🌟 Earlier this year, myGwork, an online recruitment and networking hub for LGBTQ+ professionals, partnered with Highered and surveyed 2,000 recent graduates. - 36% of those surveyed identify as LGBTQ+. - 80% of respondents said seeing LGBTQ+ role models in senior ranks would significantly influence their willingness to accept a job offer made by a prospective employer. 🌟 In 2020, 206 major corporations signed a brief in support of the Supreme Court's decision to affirm LGBTQ+ individuals' protection from workplace discrimination. 🌟 A 2020 GLAAD and P&G poll of U.S. consumers found: - 85% believe seeing LGBTQ+ people in ads/campaigns reflects the company’s commitment to offering products/services to all types of consumers. - 82% believe it reflects the company’s value for all kinds of diversity. - 80% believe it shows the company is making a statement about the importance of recognizing LGBTQ+ people. Today commemorates the annual Bike to Work Day! 🚴♀️ Many of us already embrace cycling to work, and even more of our weekend warriors hit California’s scenic trails, but Bike to Work Day serves as a great opportunity to experience your community’s progress towards cycling becoming a safe and enjoyable alternative to driving. At Rincon, we are proud to be part of that progress as our planners work with local communities to become increasingly bike-friendly. The path to a more sustainable future includes making cycling a viable mode of transportation for people in their day-to-day lives. For over 25 years, Rincon has developed policy documents and provided environmental reviews for projects including bicycle, pedestrian, and complete street plans, regional and local trails, and healthy community strategies. Our experts are actively engaged in active transportation projects across the state, from the Napa Countywide Bicycle Plan to the City of Ventura’s Active Transportation Plan, which in April received an Award of Excellence in the Transportation Planning Award category by the Central Coast Section - American Planning Association, California Chapter. We hope you are able to make this more than just a day but a way of life. Nevertheless, remember to wear helmets, stay visible, and follow the rules of the road. The Rincon team is thrilled to be recognized by the Environmental Business International, Inc.’s 2023 Business Achievement Awards! In April, Rosalyn Prickett, Principal and President and CEO John Dreher attended the 2023 Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) and Climate Change Business Journal (CBBJ) Achievement Award Ceremony in San Diego to accept two awards for Rincon: 🏆EBJ Project Merit Award: Sterling Natural Resource Center, East Valley Water District 🏆CBBJ Project Merit Award: Carbon Inventory and Sequestration Potential Study, Sonoma County Environmental Business International defines a Project Merit Award as a project that is “completed or passed a significant milestone in 2023 noted for innovation or unique solution or partnership.” Both projects will be published in their respective journals.
