This week kicks off the American Physical Society’s March Meeting! We’ll be giving talks throughout the week on our research to accelerate the development of our quantum computing capabilities. We’re also excited to talk with the quantum community about the 9-qubit Novera™ QPU, Rigetti’s first commercially available QPU. The Novera QPU enables you to pursue your quantum research with hands-on access to the same technology we use in our most powerful cloud-deployed QPUs. Make sure to stop by Booth #1302 if you’re at March Meeting to learn more about the Novera QPU — and how you can advance your quantum computing research today. 🎤 View our March Meeting talk schedule here: https://lnkd.in/gESEdg9n ➡ Learn more about the Novera QPU here: https://lnkd.in/gM_eZBTJ

About us
Rigetti Computing is building the world’s most powerful computers to help solve humanity’s most pressing and important problems. These systems will perform computations that today’s fastest supercomputers are incapable of — unlocking entirely new classes of problems and offering a direct path to solutions. We believe quantum computing is going to significantly affect health care, how we treat disease, how we generate energy, and how we feed humanity. Our superconducting quantum computing systems are available over the cloud via Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services. We were founded in 2013 by Chad Rigetti. We are located in Berkeley and Fremont, California, and have employees based all over the world.

For over a decade, Rigetti has been a leader in superconducting quantum computing. From building the world’s first quantum foundry to developing the industry’s first multi-chip quantum processor for scalable quantum computing systems, we know how much work, innovation, and resources it takes to build and deploy a quantum computer. Despite how far the industry has come, there is a tremendous amount of work to be done to deliver utility quantum computing. We applaud Admiral Gary Roughead’s recent article in RealClearDefense, which articulates the need to support the quantum computing industry during this critical phase of research and development. “I echo Admiral Roughead’s urgency in bolstering the U.S.’ quantum computing workforce and infrastructure. To maintain our leadership in quantum computing technology, we need to provide our national labs and universities with quantum computing hardware to deepen our understanding of how this transformative technology can be applied to our most important problems,” says Rigetti CEO Dr. Subodh Kulkarni. “We can’t wait for fault tolerant quantum computers to emerge on the market. The time is now to invest in quantum computing technology to support the phenomenal work being done to improve the performance and capabilities of this groundbreaking technology.”

Six months ago we began our work on Phase 2 of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Quantum Benchmarking Program to develop benchmarks for quantum application performance on large-scale quantum computers. Today, we are thrilled to share our preliminary research on the resource estimation framework we developed in Phase 1 of the program. Our preprint, “Fault-tolerant resource estimation using graph-state compilation on a modular superconducting architecture,”(https://lnkd.in/emQpP-qN) presents our resource estimation framework and software tool that estimates the physical resources required to execute specific quantum algorithms, compiled into their graph-state form, and laid out onto a modular superconducting hardware architecture. This tool can predict the size, power consumption, and execution time of these algorithms as they approach utility-scale according to explicit assumptions about the system’s physical layout, thermal load, and modular connectivity. We use this tool to study the total resources on a proposed modular architecture and the impact of tradeoffs between and inter-module connectivity, latency and resource requirements. We also show that a fault-tolerant quantum computer based on a distributed superconducting architecture consisting of two modules could house 2 million physical qubits and could serve scientifically interesting applications in a reasonable run-time. Moreover, we show how such a quantum computer could be engineered to reach that point. We look forward to continuing to optimize quantum algorithms for a variety of applications and working to improve the utility estimates to understand the value proposition of future quantum computers. This work was completed in collaboration with Aalto University, the University of Technology Sydney, and Zapata AI. Rigetti has pioneered the use of modular chip architecture to create larger quantum processors made up of smaller units. Last year we introduced multichip tunable couplers, which are floating tunable couplers that can be used to entangle qubits on separate chips. This builds on our previous work that demonstrated fixed couplers used with our Aspen™-M processors to tile two 40-qubit systems together (https://lnkd.in/gC9CrZhR). We are thrilled to share that our paper demonstrates this architecture, “Modular superconducting-qubit architecture with a multichip tunable coupler,” has been published in Physical Review Applied! (https://lnkd.in/eJc7qZJ3). Here, we demonstrate how we tile multiple chips together, including tunable couplers connecting qubits on separate dies. This will allow us to extend our fourth-generation Ankaa™-class processors by making continuous qubit lattices across multiple dies. The new multichip tunable couplers also use indium bump bonds to connect the tunable coupler across multiple chip surfaces, making the device more robust to fabrication variation compared with fixed couplers used previously. We believe that this architecture will allow us to tile future Ankaa™ systems to create larger qubit count processors without sacrificing gate performance.

Earlier this month, Rigetti CEO Dr. Subodh Kulkarni received The Most Impactful Innovation Award for his talk at the World's Top 50 Innovators 2024. Watch and learn about the value of NISQ-era quantum computers and why we believe it’s not a matter of “if,” but “when” we’ll achieve fault tolerance. #T50 #CodexTalks
