About us
Orange County Public Schools is recognized as one of the top urban school districts in the nation – the 8th largest school district in America (4th in Florida) with 210 traditional schools, approximately 206,000 students and over 24,000 employees. OCPS students enjoy equity and access to a wide variety of educational opportunities, including magnet programs with specialized curriculum from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Offerings include aviation and aerospace, laser photonics, agriscience, theater and performing arts, International Baccalaureate, international studies, law and finance, engineering, science and technology, foreign language, criminal justice, medical technology, veterinary science and other specialties. OCPS is also known for encouraging students to pursue college credits through Advanced Placement courses. In fact, OCPS high school graduates pass AP exams at a higher rate than students in Massachusetts, the highest scoring state in America. Career and technical education programs are infused in middle and high school curriculum, where students can explore career options, earn industry certifications and even receive an AA degree when they graduate. Every year, more than 100 graduates from OCPS high schools are accepted into top-20 colleges and universities around the country, as well as U.S. service academies. The district also boasts a 97.9% graduate rate among its 20 traditional high schools. By 2020, every OCPS student had a laptop or digital device as a part of an aggressive and innovative digital learning program. The Center for Digital Education and National School Boards Association ranks OCPS among the top 10 on its annual Digital School Districts Survey. Currently, every secondary student has a laptop. OCPS celebrated its 150th anniversary in December 2019. Thanks to Orange County voters and taxpayers, 50 new schools have been built and more than 120 school construction projects completed since 2003.

We're excited to announce that the Magnet Academy of Culinary Arts at Wekiva High School is one of just 40 schools nationwide to snag a $5,000 grant from The Rachael Ray Foundation and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF)! The funds from the Rachael Ray ProStart Grow Grant Program will help Wekiva upgrade its ProStart program with new equipment, fresh curriculum and even hands-on experience for students to run their own breakfast cafe! Chef Christopher Bates said: "We will be using the $5000 to build out electrical infrastructure so we can install new equipment in our on-campus restaurant. It will be used in a special, first period Cafe class, where students will learn business and entrepreneurship skills that would be impossible otherwise. We are incredibly grateful for Rachael Ray’s support!” Help us congratulate Chef Bates and the culinary program at Wekiva High! #ocps #ocpsmeanssuccess #WeAreOCPS #culinaryarts #rachaelray #OrangeCountyPublicSchools #education #culinary #students #innovation #orangecounty #florida ProStart Program Rachael Ray Show

To know OCPS Deputy Superintendent Michael Armbruster is to love him. He is one of the most beloved and genuine people you'll ever meet. This week, Dr. Armbruster experienced a heart attack. Thankfully, he's recovering well and remains his usual positive self. He shared his story on Facebook. "So, life is funny! A couple times in the past two weeks, while riding my bike, I had this funny feeling in my chest and it passed almost as quickly as it arrived. I didn’t pay it much attention. Then, yesterday, after taking two weeks off at work, I went back in. While walking to my office that same feeling happened again. Almost like muted indigestion. I visited some different co-workers to catch up on their vacations and then had a couple of meetings. The pain just wouldn’t subside and never went away…I went to my co-worker and told her I was going to ORMC…just to be safe! Turns out, I was having a heart attack yesterday! 95% blockage in one artery, so they put in two stints early this morning. The Doc wants me back in a month to try to repair another artery that has completely shut down, but amazingly also created alternative paths for the blood to go. He thinks he can do it without going open heart. If you feel funny-don’t wait-get it checked out! It’s a beautiful thing!" Please send well wishes to Dr. Armbruster for a speedy recovery!
