The Week That Was in Payments: 📆 Week 2 – July 2024 RTP Network Achieves Billion-Dollar Milestone in Record-Breaking Year The RTP Network, operated by The Clearing House, achieved a significant milestone by processing $1 billion in transactions in a single day on June 28. This instant payment system, owned by 22 major global banks, also set quarterly records in Q2, handling 82 million transactions valued at $55 billion. The network saw impressive growth, with payment volume increasing by 7% and overall payment value surging by 30% compared to the previous quarter.  https://lnkd.in/gqEp5KBp Visa and Mastercard Extend European Fee Cap Agreement Visa and Mastercard have agreed to maintain their cap on fees for payments made in Europe with cards issued outside the EU, extending a 2019 agreement with the European Commission. This deal, originally set to expire in October, will now run through at least October 2029. The cap limits fees to 0.2% for debit cards and 0.3% for credit cards, with slightly higher caps for card-not-present transactions. These rates are approximately 40% lower than pre-2019 levels.
