🎙️ New Episode Alert: Making Waves in Health Tech 🌊 We're excited to share our latest episode featuring Motivo Health, an innovative platform addressing a critical gap in mental health care. Did you know? 57% of therapists who obtain a master’s degree in counseling never get licensed because they cannot find a clinical supervisor or cannot afford one. This means we are losing more than half of our supply of therapists. Motivo Health is trying to change that. In this episode, we’ll hear from Rachel McCrickard, LMFT, who founded Motivo Health after her personal struggles finding clinical supervision in rural areas. Highlights 🔹 Motivo Health is on a mission to increase the number of licensed mental health providers by providing accessible, affordable clinical supervision with a supervisor network of more than 1,200 clinicians. 🔹 Many of Motivo Health’s supervisors work in safety-net settings, and 70% of the company’s current supervisees reside in a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area. Listen now and join the conversation on increasing mental health care accessibility! https://lnkd.in/gqjW_m24 #MakingWavesInHealthTech #MentalHealthAccess #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth

Reimbursement and Regulation are the two intractable obstacles that stand in the way of solving the mental health workforce shortage. There’s lots of innovation happening in behavioral health, but we won’t see substantive change until we can get the payment and regulatory systems to catch up. At Motivo’s Behavioral Health Workforce Summit, Charles Ingoglia of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing argued that: • Increase Pay: Non-physician clinicians need to be compensated more for clinical work.  • Employment Support: Universities need to help graduates find employment and supervision.  • Licensure Portability: Credentials and licensure should be portable across state lines.  • Streamlined Paperwork: States require extensive paperwork and data gathering. How much of this data is useful clinically? Have you had success in making changes to the mental health reimbursement or regulatory systems? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments. A special thanks to our very own Rachel McCrickard, LMFT for moderating this amazing chat! #MentalHealth #BehavioralHealth #HealthcareInnovation #WorkforceDevelopment #PolicyChange #HealthCareLeadership

There are simply not enough mental health providers to meet the current demand. As a result, organizations are competing for the same pool of providers. And provider burnout has become a very real concern. At Motivo’s Behavioral Workforce Summit, Solome Tibebu led a dynamic discussion on innovative solutions to these pressing issues. A huge thank you to Kristina Saffran (from Equip), Jessica (Schiffman) Gaulton MD, MPH (from FamilyWell Health), Stephen Smith (from NOCD), and Kwasi Kyei (from Handspring Health) for sharing their invaluable insights. – Key Takeaways – Optimize provider workload: Use technology tools, leverage pre-licensed providers and coaches, and move identification and diagnosis further upstream. Revise Payment Models: Payors need to cover non-member facing work as part of the payment structure. Retain Clinicians: Community Treatment Centers and private practices are losing clinicians to teletherapy companies who offer attractive benefits and bonus packages, an administrative support infrastructure and a peer community and culture. These organizations need to adopt similar strategies to reverse this trend. Let's work together to create sustainable solutions for our mental health workforce. #MentalHealth #BehavioralHealth #HealthcareInnovation #WorkforceDevelopment #BurnoutPrevention #Teletherapy #HealthcareLeadership

Have you read about Jon Stout’s experience at last month’s Behavioral Health Workforce Summit? It’s worth a read! For those who could not attend (and those who reached out with interest in learning more), we’ll be sharing high-level recaps of our speaker panels over the coming weeks. Stay tuned to hear more about what we learned — and how we can solve the workforce shortage together.

Last week, Motivo Health held our inaugural summit to address the pressing issue of the mental health workforce shortage. Our attendees shared their perspectives on how this issue manifests in their organizations, and we spent the entire day learning and ideating practical strategies to address the shortage. The mental health worker shortage can be summarized simply: there isn't enough supply to meet the demand. This imbalance creates competition, friction and burnout among providers, diverting our collective focus from solving other crucial issues such as access, quality, and reimbursement. Rachel McCrickard, LMFT and I learned a ton! Some highlights: #1: Look for opportunities to move some of the burden off the shoulders of the limited pool of providers. Example: Shereef Elnahal from the VA discussed integrating digital therapy with local high-touch support, and also looking for opportunities to move identification and diagnosis further upstream where possible. Kevin M. Lynch discussed financial support offered to several universities to add population health management to their curriculum. #2: Tools that enable providers to do less non client-facing work while reducing burnout are essential. Example: Hafeezah Muhammad described her automated tool that creates patient treatment plans in minutes, compared to the traditional 45-minute process. #3: Improving access to education and test prep can draw new entrants into the field. Example: Our panel representing Capella University and Triad agreed that we have the opportunity to transform in-person courses to online to support a broader range of students, but doing this right requires building the right infrastructure and systems to legitimize this shift. #4: 57% of social work graduates never get their license due to the lack of access to clinical supervision and the associated costs. Example: We at Motivo Health connect graduates to virtual clinical supervision and help them navigate the complex state-specific licensure requirements. #5: Community clinics are losing clinicians to teletherapy companies with offers of better benefits and bonuses, administrative support, and a peer community. New retention strategies are necessary. Example: Eric Paul at HCA is building dedicated education relationships with schools and offering professional counseling and tuition reimbursement to attract and retain talent. Conclusion: There’s work to be done, but the mental health worker shortage feels a little less elusive after our discussions at the summit. If you have actionable strategies or thoughts to share, we want to hear from you. Email me at jon.stout@motivohealth.com
