Leap. One interface to the global energy markets.
About us
Leap is the leading platform for generating new value from distributed energy resources (DERs) through integration with energy markets. Through its software-only solution, Leap facilitates fast, easy and automated access to high-value grid services revenue streams for the providers of batteries, electric vehicle charging, smart thermostats, HVAC systems and other flexible assets. By aggregating the DERs enrolled on its platform, Leap supplies virtual power plants (VPPs) to balance the grid. Leap enables its partners and their customers to unlock new value streams and help create a more flexible, resilient grid powered by renewable resources.

🚀 It's showtime for virtual power plants (VPPs) 🌇 As heat waves intensify across the U.S. this week, with California in particular facing dangerous, record-breaking temperatures, Leap and our technology partners are ready to act. Our advanced technology will automatically activate thousands of participating energy devices to provide crucial relief to the electric grid during emergency events. VPPs are a crucial climate adaptation solution. As extreme temperatures become more frequent, VPPs play a vital role in balancing the grid, preventing blackouts, and reducing electricity costs for consumers. #heatwave #climateadaptation #virtualpowerplants #VPPs #gridstability

The cleanest watt-hour is the one you never use. Read how Leap's virtual power plant solutions lower carbon emissions and how we're growing our impact through our new collaboration with WattCarbon: #virtualpowerplants #VPPs #carboncredits #cleanenergy
Demand response is a critical piece of the clean energy puzzle. ⏱️⚡ Surging energy usage and increasing extreme weather events means California is under pressure to not only produce clean energy, but to also ensure power stability and keep dirty peaker plants offline. 🏭🚫 In our latest Every Watt-Hour Tells a Story, we spoke to Leap’s Co-Founder and CEO Thomas Folker on how Leap is partnering with WattCarbon to supercharge the creation of virtual power plants (VPPs) to keep dirty peaker plants offline and ensure clean energy goals are met.🤝 #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #DemandResponse #VPPAs

Exciting news: CAISO’s draft Policy Catalog contains a policy initiative that would allow battery export compensation in California! The initiative, called Modified Proxy Demand Response (mPDR) would credit demand response resources for battery exports back to the grid, allowing them to be paid for those exports. 🔋 This would be a major step forward for demand response in California that would unlock massive new revenue opportunities for battery and V2X tech. However, it’s not yet a given that CAISO will take it up. Your vote can help make this a reality. If your company is engaged with (or might engage with) demand flexibility in California, simply complete this multiple-choice survey by June 26: https://lnkd.in/ewJaE2rn Policy Categories: Select “Demand Response” as your highest priority. Policy Initiatives: Select “Modified PDR – hybrid PDR with BTM storage” as one of your highest priorities. (feel free to select other priority initiatives at your discretion, or just select “neutral”) Thanks for your support to ensure that batteries receive credit for their full value to the grid! #batterystorage #CAISO #demandresponse #energypolicy

Congratulations to our partner EnergyHub for securing a CEC grant to help expand access to the benefits of VPPs to low- and moderate-income customers! Leap is excited to partner with EnergyHub on this initiative to create new value for customer-owned DERs in California's wholesale market. #virtualpowerplants #VPPs #DERs #distributedenergyresources #gridresilience
We're excited to announce that EnergyHub has been awarded a grant by the California Energy Commission to expand the participation of distributed energy resources (DERs) in virtual power plants (VPPs) across California. The funding will help us enroll up to 7,000 new thermostats, EVs, EV chargers, and batteries in our platform with a focus on low- and moderate-income customers. Our partnership with Leap will allow us to bid these aggregated devices into CAISO, increasing the value of customer-owned DERs to the electricity system and providing a seamless experience for residents looking to enroll in the program. Here's to accelerating California's progress towards a 100% renewable energy future and improving grid reliability!
