This picture (below) was taken late in the evening on March 7, 2020 in Columbus, Ohio. It was a private party event in our restaurant, Goodale Station, located on the 12th floor of our Canopy hotel. The group in the photo were in town for the annual Arnold Sports Festival...hosted by (obviously) Arnold Schwarzenegger, that was four years ago. The man making the toast is Jean-Claude Van Damme. The man to his right (your left) and likely the subject of the toast, is the actor known for his portrayal of "The Mountain" character in Game of Thrones. He is also a world famous strongman, and a really, really big dude. This photo is (now) sentimental to me. That hotel, which had been in the works since 2014, had opened in July of 2019, and that restaurant opened a few months later in October. By February, the business was "cranking" as we like to say in the hotel business. So, the news of the shutdown, which coincided with the day this was taken, was especially depressing. You can see several bottles of Corona beer in the picture - no doubt a form of protest. A few hours later, the world changed. Hard to believe it all happened four years ago. But time marches on...the Arnold event is back in town this weekend. Hotels are sold out, and the restaurant is jammed. So, Cheers! to any of those in the photo that found their way back to Columbus this weekend. We're glad you are back. If you are in Columbus, please make sure to stop by the Canopy and visit our rooftop experience, Goodale Station. Open for dinner daily, and brunch on Saturday & Sunday.
